My car goes really quick from 0-40... Then it shifts into 2nd and it seems to take forever to get to 60+... Like at least 2-3x as long... What can I do to fix this horrible problem? What are some good top-end mods?

That's not really a top-end mod... Since I'll top out at what, 90mph w/ 4.10s? :| But yeah, I think I'll get 3.73's, sometime...

I think mine pulls at least as good as stock in second... But it's like... 2-3 seconds from 0-40 and then 3 or 4 more seconds from 40-60...

you only top out at 90 with 4.1's if you dont get it chipped to correct the computer so it knows the different gears.

Hmmm! That would be sweet then. Do 4.10s help in all gears for acceleration? I mean.. Obviously they do... But would the pull be noticeably different in second/third?

prolly but it will like only like shave .2 secs off your 1/4. but youll feel it in your pants when you take off and all the gears will top out quicker due to the higher gearset. laser do you have any other mods?

I have a lot of mods... But the only real go-fast ones I have are: 3000 stall PI stallion TQ converter, superior competition shift kit and FMS aluminum driveshaft. The rest are all suspension/stereo/appearance.

yeah i have a 3000 stall tc too. it made a fat difference in performance, and it was free for me(came with rebuild) may i suggest some intake work to be done? possibly a cai system, be it MAC or the 60$ ebay one. also some good port and polishing on the intake and heads. and a true dual exhaust, 2.25" all the way back, matched with a X-pipe and your choice of muffler. these mods will free up some hp(around 25-30) and prolly will cost under 800. then when you do add the 4.1 rear end with Trac-Loc it will make a huge difference. 2nd gear will be over by the time you shift into it.

I'm up for all suggestions. I'm getting ready to order exhaust.. But I think I'm getting CDC side-exhaust. Probably not much (if any) gains, but I like the look, and also one of my existing rocker panels is already busted. I think I'm going to wait on intake work until I see what EE comes up with.

If you are wanting top end power get some simple bolt ons, like a cold air kit, underdrive pullies, and dual exhaust. They don't call gears "tq multipliers" for nothing, but yes they pull quicker the higher the rpm and will help you in 2nd and onwards.

Okay then.. Well. This brings up another question... If I get gears and get a chip... How much does it cost to reburn if I get other mods after? I'll need a chip if I ever do intakes/heads/cam right? So should I just wait and do all of those and pay once for a chip?

Yes, plus chips don't add much unless your car is far from stock and needs to be 'recalibrated' so to say (tuned). As for the gears/chip thing, if you have a 5 spd you can correct your speedo only for ~95 bucks shipped with a SpeedCal, but if you're an auto you'd need a chip. Save, save, save, or get a GT or another V8 car.

I'm definitely sticking with the 6... My first car, so I'm kind of attached. Anyhow, thanks! I'll get the exhaust and maybe a cai, then swap in the intakes/heads/cam/rear all at the same time so I'll only need one chip.

just keep the six. youll be paying more for insurance on the gt. besides all these bold ons and youll be keeping up with a gt. then supercharge it and say hello 12's. add a little nos and say goodbye corvette.

I think he ment with the heads/intake/cam/rear/all other bolt-ons and then a super charger it would be in the 12's. Then add some NoS and corvettes watch out.
I found out on my car that if I shift to 2cd at the right rpm and if I shift fast enough, I can make my wheels chirp really good, and it carries me to 60 in like very little time. I dont know what it is but if I shift right around 4200 rpm extremely quick it always works.
Laser, what rpm does your car normally shift to 2cd when you are making her move?
