Can an employer renig a job offer?

My girlfriend accepted a new position from her current employer last week. She was given a start date, etc, but I'm not sure if she's signed the contract yet. She went into work today and they told her that due to budget cuts she is no longer offered her new position. I told her I am pretty sure that's illegal. I tried to call my lawyer buddy but he didn't answer. Thoughts?

It's really no different then them firing you or laying you off. Just like you can back out of an acceptance as well. |

Nothing you can do.She should be happy they didn't tell her due to budget cuts she is no longer has a job

Not really, because they can still opt out of the contract...they'll just have to pay her per the deal in the contract...but they can still back out of it. |

so si she out of a job completely or does she just have to keep her current position?

She still has her current job, the only downside to this now is that she was supposed to go out of town for training for her current job this week. They told her not to go to training since she would be moving to a new area on Sept. 1st, but since she can't get the new job anymore she is behind in her development plan.
