What do you engine guys think about that 4.0l for the 2005?

What you guys think of the 4.0? The blockis the same as the bronco but bored I hear.

I"m still not sure which 4.0 it is!!!
I had a good idea it would be the 4.0 SOHC
(hot ticket!!!) then a very good source in the
industry said it was just the regular 4.0 OHV and
now I saw again where it is the 4.0 OHC... :-?
Either shortblock is basically the same, and it will
be nearly identical to the Explorer (bronco) engine
of the corresponding type. They have both too...
There will be millions of JY pieces if it is the
OHV but fewer OHC parts. But OHC makes ~50 more HP
Overall it is a good move except that it is not a 90* V6
but a 60* V6... totally different engine than we have now.

Well for says OHC.
It's the same as the bronco block.
Have you looked at the bronco block? How is the block thickness?
The main problem with our block is it can't take compression too well.
It can be a 60 degree, but is it's a thicker truck block, boost the hell out of
it.

its a 4.0 sohc.
with 202hp and whatever tq.
I read the mag. today with the stats just forgot all them.
I dont know which platform their using. But iam glad they went to a 4.0 rather than a 3.0

If they haven't picked up on it by now, they never will, its been around for years and years, its basically a bored and stroked 2.6L that used to be in the old Capris and Mustang IIs way back in the mid 70s maybe even before that in the Capris and others. Its probably already about stretched to its limit for performance however, but, it will make a little Ford Ranger SCREAM though, lol.

Also the OHV and the sohc engine is the same engine, they just changed it around and made it into a sohc.

The 4.0-liter V-6 offers improved NVH, higher power output and a more compact package than the previous Mustangs 3.8-liter pushrod V-6. It features low-profile heads with single overhead cams driven by a slave shaft mounted in the "V" of the engine. This results in a lower overall engine height than a conventional overhead cam setup.
As in V-8 applications, a new composite intake manifold was developed specifically for duty in the Mustang. The 4.0-liter V-6 also gets a unique camshaft grind, new tuned-length exhaust manifolds, a new flywheel and an oil pan. In addition, Mustang engineers designed an enhanced fuel injection system with reduced evaporative leakage, a new EGR system and revised cooling circuit for the 4.0-liter V-6.
Key noise-reducing features of the 4.0-liter SOHC V-6 include a girdled crankcase for increased strength and rigidity, a dual-mode crankshaft damper, coated skirt pistons, optimized bearing clearances and isolated composite cam covers.
Research with current and potential customers played a role in achieving the sound quality buyers expect from a Mustang engine. Listening studies were conducted with current and potential Mustang owners to determine precisely what engine sounds were "powerful." The resulting sound reinforces the American muscle-car personality of the 2005 Mustang.

thats not really the same anymore. Maybe the shortblock is old but everything above that is different.
You can't really say a pushrod motor and OHC motor are the same. Its to HUGE a difference to even be considered.

Excuse, same basic block, has been since the 2.6L used back in the 70s, that was my point. Of course they have changed around, they bored, stroked it, then they changed the heads, they made it into an overhead cam engine, there have been tons of changes, but its still basically the same old block, with tons of modernization and changes, of course. Like I also said, its pretty much stretched to its limit, I am not sure how much souping up it can take and still be sound.

Its no different than Ford does with its V8s, they took the 221cu. in V8, bored it stoked it, whatever, and made the 260, 289, 302, 351W, yes the windsor does have some different heads and maybe deck height of the block, but still cut from that same old basic 221 block and modified. Chevy has done more or less the same thing, 265, 283, 327, 302, 350, small block 400, all from the same old block, and you can bet they are probably still pouring blocks in that same old mold at GM now.

Congrats. You figured out the the main differnce between all engine. The only real difference is big block or smalll block.

 I read it's suppossed to put out around 200hp! At least it's something better to work with. And I think that Ford should have made an OHC v6 for the Mustang a long time ago.

I bought my 2003 v6 stock and it came with around 190 give or take a few

i tried to find out how much hp it has but all it said was 190, if thats at the crank how much is at the rear wheels

an inline engine would be easier to work with, one header, one head, it'd be ohc of ocurse though.

I'm disgusted that they were only able to squeeze a whole 7 HP out of that kind of displacement increase and making it overhead cam. Come on, the 350z puts out 287 from a 3.5. 200 is pitiful. :oops:

you guys are missing the whole point of the "base model" mustang.
if someone wants performance mustang, they would buy a GT, or a cobra.
Ford see's the v6 as a cheap sporty looking car, so they dont care to make much performance out of it.
And the 2004 was 193hp,
and the 2005 is like 207hp so you gained a little bit more.

and Nissan charges $10,000 more for it. If you were willing to give Ford $10000 more for your 6-cylinder, I'm sure they'd hook you up
