The 98 mustang has two cats on each pipe...to keep it California street legal when opening up all the exhaust Do i need 4 cats still?

technically yes.....i am going through this right now too......i have an aftermarket pipe on my car and I need to register it, get it smogged and get a visual inspection. If you get pulled over, you need to present CARB numbers for all modifications or you get fined big time, especially with cats taken off.

Small Story: I live California. Ive been pulled over in my Integra and my car was inspected by a cop who claimed to have taken a class and knew what was street legal. I did have all the CARB numbers for all my mods. I still got a ticket. I had to go to the State Ref. and get my car smogged.

Just remember a COP is not a SMOG Tech. if you get pulled over for an illegal SMOG device; you probably will get a ticket. But the ticket/fine can be reduce to a fix-it ticket if you get your car Smogged by the State Ref.

yeap. I've been working on cars for years; and ware Ilive they have "crack downs". so I pretty much stay on my toes when it come to street legal parts and how I can help my local gear head.
