My '01 3.8 has a very quiet, almost unnoticeable ticking... to most others. But as you all may know, if you're driving the car all the time, the sound becomes unbearable and ridiculously annoying. The ticking has been going on for about a year, and haven't been able to locate the problem myself. About a week or 2 ago, my SES light came on and I had it scanned at the shop I work at and it came up as EGR valve. Could the main valve piece going into the manifold be causing the ticking, even for the past year, although the light has only been on for a couple weeks? I was told through a Ford dealership service guy that there are also two more "outs" I guess you would call it coming off the main EGR tubing. Has anyone experienced this problem? I know EGR problems aren't uncommon, but I would much rather get rid of the ticking quickly if I knew it were just a simple fix by replacing that valve or the 2 smaller extensions off of it. Any ideas?
