I just ran water through my radiator, plugged it and filled it all the way. Let the car run until it opened up and redrained. I didn't use any of that cooling system flush, heard bad things about it.

if it REALLY needs it (more than say 25k miles between changes) I would probably drain the block as well as the radiator, there are two bolt holes generally one on each side of the block you can take out and drain coolant from.
after that the entire block should be clean, but you can run some distilled water through it to clean it out some more if you wish~ i wouldnt do tap though.
After that do a 50/50 premix fill of any time (IMO at least) and fill her back up.
You can get a shop to vacuum it and suck it through (what I did worked great) or you can just fill and get air out of it etc etc until its good just make SURE all the air is out of it.

i've heard of using distilled water when filling it back up. sounds like a good idea seeing that you have no idea what is in tap water.

Its easier plus it pre mixed. You might be paying a dollar less for the pre mix but your not stuck buying the gallon or so of distilled water, plus the antifreeze.
