What's the base for the V6 mustang these days? Seems like the mustang is a little more...which won't be good for sales.

Um, not sure about the 6's, but if the 8's had been, then the mustang would have died and not the camaro. But I think the 6ers were cheaper too which is why the camaro died the first time...

The F-Bodies were more expensive through the 90's. They were priced out of their market.

Camaro's have been more expensive the mustangs for quite some time. Ford is definitely going to have to boost the power in the v6 and gt models to compete. I would be willing to spend the extra 2k and have a 300hp v6 and 6spd vs 210hp and 5spd. Not to mention the challengers start at 22k also and have a 250hp v6. Their only down fall is its only offered with an auto. So if they offer a manual in the challenger I suspect the base price will be more around 20-21k on the challenger.

Thats kidnda disturbing if i can get a 422hp six speed camarro SS for a stone throw less than 31k that worrys my next purchases... ill be interested to see how much it costs for every little upgrade. The 2010 mustang better throw some better punches IE a 400hp GT model and a 300hp entry level... There gonna have to stop worrying about offering a entry level eyecandy car and start accepting that there gonna be offering 3 full blown muscle cars only problem is if theres a 400 hp GT what does that make the next SVT project 600??? then aernt we treading on slipery supercar territory??? either way bring me horsepower lots of horsepower and more torque...

There is no "Next SVT" project. SVT = No More...a long time ago.
But, I don't see ford upping things too much when the craparo comes out. They have pretty much always been underpowered compared to the bowtie boys...yet still survived. I don't see anyone over there have the foresight to think they need to upgrade...and with their financial situation, I don't see them throwing a lot of R&D at updating their current offerings. We shall see when the 2010 model specs start getting released. If they don't get bumped for 2010, don't expect them for a while.

Ford won't be doing anything extra to the Stangs unless the Camaro takes a pretty hefty bite out of their sales. R&D is expensive and their number one concern is profit. They won't spend the bucks on development unless they see it putting more money in their pockets. Being the fastest, or the most powerful, doesn't matter much to a coorporate exec.

maybe thats the problem... While i agree that ford execs are more concerned with making money i would like to point out (even though it really isnt a factor anymore sadly...) that when ferrari backed out of the ford buyout way back when and ford unleashed the GT40 project on lemans for 4 consecutive wins ford was doing quite well... I know that GM is much in the same boat as ford but thier success with the corvette is something of note... they produce a product which is really one of the best value for money cars ever. i know the mustangs and especially the terminator cobras are great value for money but id like to see someone compete with a Z06 around the ring then offer the luxury and economy on the drive home... and no i dont want to hear anything about some high strung lotus there terrible as a GT car... the point im trying to show is that the C6R has had marked success in racing and as many companies have shown that cometitive racing makes its way back to the cars on the road... Long story short shouldnt ford execs be more concerned with racing past thier one off FR500 engines which cost as much as a new GT anyways???

or ford owners
I see Ford doing alright. Their power may look a bit low, but it'll be a closer call than most people think when it comes to 1/4 mile times because it weights 500lbs less than the Camaro and Challenger. I don't know how much more the 2010 will weight, but I doubt much as it's built on the same platform if I'm not mistaking

wow, didnt realize how pathetic those numbers would be. I've been outa the stang game for a while so im not sure but how much do each of those weigh also? Seems pathetic the base V6 camaro will blow the v8 mustang outa the water performance wise.. and thats not even talking about the camaro v8 yet. At any rate im not even sold on the new camaro yet, still prefer last generation WS6's, i suppose proven results from the camaro could change that.

I'd love to agree with you, but you're wrong.
The V6 Camaro may have similar horsepower number, but its also heavier. Therefore it will not out-perform the Mustang GT.
I figure Ford will step up their power a bit in 2010. If not they can still sell alot by selling them to all middle aged women like they have the past 15 years. :wtf2:

any idea on the weight of the gt? mustangs have generally always been heavier and a v8 is heavier than a v6 in general, im not saying your wrong im just curious what the facts are, anyone can claim such and such will outperform such and such.

2008 Mustang GT Curbweight: 3540
2009 shouldn't differ much from that
2010 Camaro LS Curbweight: 3780

oic, so really depending on gearing the v6 camaro in 08 will be right up next to the mustang GT, I sure hope ford steps up in 10 because they are going to get embarassed performance wise otherwise. dont tell me the gt will blow it out because 200 lb difference is nothing, gas and driver could compensate for that.. Although fbodies had more power in the 90s and we saw what happened to them.. lol I guess power isnt everything to people.

I don't really give a shit. I'm going to buy a Mustang regardless of whether the Camaro is leaps and bounds more powerful. I don't have to have the fastest car around to make myself feel better. I love Mustangs so I buy them.

ford needs to add the 3.5 in the base model as long as the price won't jump too much.

Not a bad thing at all if you want to overpay for a "pony/sports" car that is slower, and the same price as its competitor

You can pick up a new camaro V6 nicely modded for around 25 out the door if you talk the salesmen down. They'll start out telling you you can't get one for less than 45...
