What's the base for the V6 mustang these days? Seems like the mustang is a little more...which won't be good for sales.

Um, not sure about the 6's, but if the 8's had been, then the mustang would have died and not the camaro. But I think the 6ers were cheaper too which is why the camaro died the first time...

The F-Bodies were more expensive through the 90's. They were priced out of their market.

Camaro's have been more expensive the mustangs for quite some time. Ford is definitely going to have to boost the power in the v6 and gt models to compete. I would be willing to spend the extra 2k and have a 300hp v6 and 6spd vs 210hp and 5spd. Not to mention the challengers start at 22k also and have a 250hp v6. Their only down fall is its only offered with an auto. So if they offer a manual in the challenger I suspect the base price will be more around 20-21k on the challenger.

Thats kidnda disturbing if i can get a 422hp six speed camarro SS for a stone throw less than 31k that worrys my next purchases... ill be interested to see how much it costs for every little upgrade. The 2010 mustang better throw some better punches IE a 400hp GT model and a 300hp entry level... There gonna have to stop worrying about offering a entry level eyecandy car and start accepting that there gonna be offering 3 full blown muscle cars only problem is if theres a 400 hp GT what does that make the next SVT project 600??? then aernt we treading on slipery supercar territory??? either way bring me horsepower lots of horsepower and more torque...

There is no "Next SVT" project. SVT = No More...a long time ago.
But, I don't see ford upping things too much when the craparo comes out. They have pretty much always been underpowered compared to the bowtie boys...yet still survived. I don't see anyone over there have the foresight to think they need to upgrade...and with their financial situation, I don't see them throwing a lot of R&D at updating their current offerings. We shall see when the 2010 model specs start getting released. If they don't get bumped for 2010, don't expect them for a while.

Ford won't be doing anything extra to the Stangs unless the Camaro takes a pretty hefty bite out of their sales. R&D is expensive and their number one concern is profit. They won't spend the bucks on development unless they see it putting more money in their pockets. Being the fastest, or the most powerful, doesn't matter much to a coorporate exec.

maybe thats the problem... While i agree that ford execs are more concerned with making money i would like to point out (even though it really isnt a factor anymore sadly...) that when ferrari backed out of the ford buyout way back when and ford unleashed the GT40 project on lemans for 4 consecutive wins ford was doing quite well... I know that GM is much in the same boat as ford but thier success with the corvette is something of note... they produce a product which is really one of the best value for money cars ever. i know the mustangs and especially the terminator cobras are great value for money but id like to see someone compete with a Z06 around the ring then offer the luxury and economy on the drive home... and no i dont want to hear anything about some high strung lotus there terrible as a GT car... the point im trying to show is that the C6R has had marked success in racing and as many companies have shown that cometitive racing makes its way back to the cars on the road... Long story short shouldnt ford execs be more concerned with racing past thier one off FR500 engines which cost as much as a new GT anyways???
