weird idea

ok i kno this is a wierd idea and it prolly will not work but i figured id ask/try any way. I have a 03 auto, and i was thinking (and if im wrong here please correct me) that the shifter in my car is not actually connected to my transmission like a 5 spd, its connected though wires and electronics? and i was wondering is it possilbe to rig up a 4 spd shifter to it, like 1st wud be 1st, 2nd wud be 2nd, 3rd wud be o/d off and 4th wud be D, N wud be between 3 and 4 and reverse wud be where 5th wud be. I kno its pretty weird but it came to me between being wake and asleep. so thanks for the help

Are you saying you want to put a manual shifter in an auto to PRETEND it's a 5spd?

yea sorta ,see i wanted a 5 spd but i couldnt get it, and i dont want to sell my car, and i dont have 1500 dollars laying around to change my car from an auto to a 5 spd, and i like that fact that i can get a pi 3k torque converter. but I would still like to shift the car like my old 5 spd car.

sounds like a neat idea, unique thats for sure, and I always like unique. Don't know if or how you could do that, but if you can figure out a way, id say go for it. Only thing I would be concerned about would be it slipping outta gear or something. Good luck with it if you do.

It doesn't sound very easy to do. I have no clue how you'd convert the mechanical shifter on the manual transmission to an electronic circuit. And secondly, your gearing is wrong. And thirdly, you can do the exact same thing now, with your automatic. Except that it's straight. Sounds like a huge waste of money and time to fake people into believing you're driving a manual.

If you want something along those lines, just get a B&M shifter that is made for your Automatic. Its much better to get a shift kit and let the transmission shift itself though, I never touch my shifter after I put it in Drive.

I don't think there's any product out there that will shift an auto lever in an H pattern. You can get a boot to make it look more like a manual shifter, but the lever will still move in a straight line.
