I never owed one myself but it's sad to see a long time car company like that fade away.

The last big 'sports car" by mercury was the Marauder...it's slower than most stock crown vics lol. I've driven both

You actually met Ransom E. Olds? You must be a geezer. He died in 1950.

I believe he would have been Ransom's son then. I would say the man I met was approx. 75-85 years old in 1987 when I met him. So, yeah, he's probably dead too now.

the marauder should be faster than a crown vic. the marauder uses a dohc 4.6 i do believe, almost has the same charecteristics as the mach1 4.6. though its heavy as hell and costs about 40+ grand. theyre overpriced just like the new tbirds, and thats why theyre killing them. ford owns mercury, but mercury's sales suck last time i heard. but the new top end cougar is pretty fking fast, it might even keep with the gst my buddy says(he test drives all new cars).

marauders are cool cars, a good amount quicker than the vics.
yes, ford has owned mercury for a long time. hence, "ford lincoln mercury" dealerships.
i'm not sad to see olds die.

the Merauder couldnt really be considered a sports car, it would fit the "muscle car" category rather decent, bigger car, bigger engine, mean looks, but it wasnt the dead rigger mercury needed, the 99-2002 cougar flopped, the gran marquis isnt going anywhere since its the same thing as a crown vic...

A muscle car isn't a "big car, big engine" deal. It was the biggest engine stuffed into a midsized two door. Something the Marauder doesn't fit into. Now maybe a Taurus with a 5.4L.
Funny thing is the GTO is considered the "first" muscle car. It had a 389 in a midsized Pontiac (Tempest) body. For at least two years prior to the GTO's introduction you could go to your local Dodge or Plymouth dealer and buy a midsized car with a 413. In 64 when the GTO promiered the mid sized MoPars got a 426 wedge headed engine option, later upgraded that year to 426 Hemi. Yet the Goat gets the claim to "first" musclecar. Maybe because the only engine available was the 389, whereas those midsized Mopars had a wide range of optional engine from slant six to 426 Hemi.
semantics

if we keep going with the GTO's...you cant tell me the 66-67 were midsize, those were some pretty big cars, but they were still considered muscle cars
i was saying more or less, the Merauder is more of a muscle car than a sports car, thats all, not saying its definatly a muscle car, just saying it fits that description better than it would a sports car description

It's just sluggish I guess...the marauder I drove was a teacher's when they first came out.. so I really didnt' get on it very good. But it just didn't feel any faster than the vics I usually drive for FD
