I need new shocks/struts. After some research I decided to buy Gabriel's Max Control shocks for the rear. Autozone is a retailer so I go down there and order a pair. First pair arrives and both shocks and hardware bags are thrown in a Fed-ex box. I am used to shocks coming individually in the manufacturer's boxes along with thier hardware. Not so in this case. First thing I notice when I am opening the box is that there is oil on the flap of the box.
So I pull out the shocks. One of them is leaking opil, the other has no restraining strap on it. So I have them order a new one to replace the leaky one. New one came in today and it's leaking oil too. None of these shocks had a Gabriel label on them, nor do the stamped numbers on them correspond to the Gabriel part numbers. I decide F it, I gotta have them installed before tomorrow so I get my money back and buy a set of Gabriel Ultras off the shelf. Thouroughly inspected them first too. No leaks, individual boxes, both had restraining straps, instruction sheets and both Gabriel's label on ithem and Gabriel's part number stamped in the tube.
Dunno what AZ was pulling with the Max Controls I originally wanted but it smelled.

Why dont you spend a little extra money and buy some really nice shocks like Koni. Everytime i order somthing top of the line i rarely have any problems. Not to mention you most likely would get more out of a performance type shock that is adjustable. I have bought some stuff from autozone before and never had any real big problems. But that sucks and if i were the owner of the store i would be pretty pissed off.

How much were they because you could have a complete set of Bullit/ Tokicos struts and shocks with all new hardware for 179.99 and have something much better than anything Gabriel ever thought of making

Well, you show me where Koni's are a little bit more than $29.99/ea for the shock I got, or $49.99/ea for the shocks I wanted and I will. Cheapest I seen Koni's for is $95 each for the rear shocks
Koni's are way too overpriced for what they are, imho.

I didnt say you had to buy koni's. Jeeze relax. All i said is why dont you buy a nice set of shocks that are adjustable LIKE KONI. Their are other brands which im sure you know of. Not to mention i did say why dont you spend alittle more money. 30 compared to 90 is only 60 more dollars. Some shocks last longer than others and normally price and experence reflects their quality.

Only $60 more, per shock. Ha. I got a wife and three daughters, I been driving on dead shocks for 15k miles. I finally had enough and told the keeper of the funds I am getting new shocks. Heck, she even told me I needed new shocks, but never seems to find the cash to let me buy them.

Koni's are definatly worth the money, you pay the 90 bucks now, but its not often people blow Koni's, or wear em out, and when they do, send em out, pay a cheap fee, and have em rebuilt
but i understand your situation, i got some Mopar shocks for my dodge from a friend with 5000 miles on em...i know what its like using what you can get in a pinch
