Either 5.0 or MM&FF did a whole article on modding a 2.3L. There are people that mod them. Google is your friend

I know but for 400 dollars he gets a new motor that he can rebuild. God Knows what the current one has been through

try racerwalsh.com

a co-worker has an 80-something 2.3 and he's doing the quarter mile in the low 12s. i swear! it took him 3 engines to get it right though.

find a wrecked thunderbird turbo coupe, hack up the wiring harness to make it work, and there ya go, high 15's to start with

full exhaust, moving a few vacume lines, making an intake, a few odds and ends, you could have a mid 14 second car with ease

Yeah, the turbo 4 banger is a whole nother beast altogether.
But the N/A 4 banger is an anemic dog.
I will see if we have access to anything that can help.

Aside from the TURBO off the 2.3TC ford sells a race head, headers, and some lopey cams for them since theyre very popular on dirt tracks.

I say swap over the equipment from the turbo coupe motor and just be careful since your naturally aspirated 2.3 will have cast pistons rather than forged like the turbo motor.Just dont get taken away with the boost.

Before swapping my 2.3 out for the 331 i had glass packs and duals on the 2.3 and belive it or not it rumbled like a very stock v8.

what he said.

with the top of the line stuff, which i'm sure you're not interested in (esslinger), you can build yourself a 300rwhp n/a 2.3, or a built 800rwhp+ turbo'd TC motor. keep in mind the single esslinger head is 4k... i like oddities like the 2.3 going fast, but not for 4k. 4k is enough for a 5.0 swap and bang, 14's and a huge aftermarket.
