1989 gt 5 lug wheels

Hello, i have a 1989 mustang and i was looking for some new wheels, i have a set of what look to be stock rims that are 5 lug, it has the conversion kit on it. When i turn left or right the wheels rub the lower control arm, so i suppose i need a wheel with less backspacing.
Looking for something along the lines of the modern 5 spoke mustang wheels, either 16" or 17", prefer 16's cause i just bought new tires.
If anyone has any ideas i'd love to hear em, thanks.

You will run into that problem with foxbodies, they just don't have the wheel well for big wheels/tires up front. You wouldn't happen to have any pictures of the wheels or a description so we can determine what year they are would you?

u can run 255's with ease in the front, 275's in the back is a lil tight but it will fit under the wheelwell. anymore than that will require the removal of the quad shock and rolling the fenders.

These are the wheels on there now, and they rub the lower control arm on hard turns

Ok, those are 03/04 V6 wheels. 16x7's. Come with 225/55/16's on them from the factory. You really shouldn't be running into a problem with 225's on the front...
Any ideas what spindles were used on the conversion? It might be worth your time to invest in some SN95 cobra spindles and A arms to fix the problem rather than spend money on new wheels. Those suprisingly look good on there lol.
Or...you could just do the cheap man fix and not cut the wheel all the way. The 275's I had on the front of my V6 rubbed on full lock...so I didn't go full lock. The 03/04 cobra spindles have a lockout to keep it from turning quite as far. No problems now with 275's up front.

ye i have no idea whats on there, i bought it like that, maybe i'll go with like some 1995 cobra r wheels or somthing and just try not to cut the wheel all the way lol |
