Well I've tried to absorb all of this in the last few hours, I haven't touched my stereo till now I've just been doing performance and appearence stuff. Right now I don't have the mach 460, just the bottom of the line sound system on my 2002. I listen to a lot of metal, never rap or dance or hip-hop. So I'm guessing you can see where I am going with this, I don't care about thumping down the street, not too worried about getting subs or anything. It would be nice if I could it a bit louder, and a nice crisp sound. So far what I've seen is that I should probably start but upgrading the stock speakers.
Components seem like too much work so I thought I would just get some better quality 6x8 speakers for the doors and the rear. Next I could replace the head unit, then finally add a quality amp to the system. Does this seem like it would be a reasonable improvement? I don't really want to spend too much on this, 17 years old with a part time job at circuit city. (yes I know I should know more about car audio lol.) Also another thing to consider is what kind of brand you woudl recomend, becasue I can get some discounts on a lot of stuff. First of all we have the straight in-store discount, I get everything at store cost. On top of that, we have direct accomodation deals with Polk audio and MTX. The direct accodmoations always make it even a better deal, so I would like to take advantage of one of these discounts I can get.
Edit: I have some more information on the discounts I get, my best bet is to go with infinity price wise...here is a sampling of what I get

Christ thats some cool stuff for a good price.
Just get Infinities 5x7 Speakers for the front and rear.
Get you a Alpine head unit since Circuit City carries these (Alpine is the best imo)
Then get you a 50x4 Infinity Amp
See this:

Thanks for the info, the ones you quoted were components. Bear with me casue im stupid but that means there is gonna be a tweeter seaprate from the speakers right? Where would i mount that? I was looking at these

the ones that he quoted arent components like yorue thinking of them as. They have the tweeter mounted directly on top of the woofer part hence theyre called components... its weird. They will fit though.

Sounds like a nice setup, you will get some good clarity with the items you are interested in... good luck with the install and I hope you are happy with whatever you decide to pick up... I also listen to a lot of metal... I also listen to rap, house, techno, 70's rock... etc etc etc... You will like having an amp and subs installed, even if you dont plan to crank it up enough to piss off the community you live in. Just helps livin up your music... Even with metal, the sound of a double kick drum sounds really nice coming through a set of 12's.

THe only difference I see between the two is MP3 playback, everything else looks identical... I don't know if mp3 playback is worth the extra 60 bucks since I have xm radio anyways

Once you factor in the shipping I can get the same unit for jsut as cheap as not cheaper with the employee discount. I mean if you think about it circuit city is just marking up these items more than the people on ebay, but the people on ebay are still MAKING money off the deal. If I get the item without the circuit city markup odds are I'll pay less than the ebay retailers. (unless they caught some off the back of a truck)

Alright well basically I am trying now to decide between the cheaper alpine that I posted the specs of above, or this panasonic one http://www.circuitcity.com/detail.js...&oid=87531&m=1
The panasonic has a wireless remote and looks a bit better but thats about it. Both are similar on the other features. Both are ~150 with my discount (But the panasonic has a 20 dollar mail in rebate so its 130 after the rebate)
