Well for those of you that have been wondering why I haven't been on for the last 2 days, my computer at home work boot up anymore. Does anybody know a way I can get into my computer to save some of the info I have in there like my tunes I have for my car and stuff like that. Can I make a boot disk, or have one made, or have some one re-install windows so that I can use my computer again with out losing any of my files? Please help me.

if you have the windows XP cd just stick it in the drive and let it boot up. when it asks if you want to format or repair, pick repair

All I have is the restore cd's. I tried doing that and it says that if I wish to carry on, all my data will be erased. So do I need to buy the actual windows XP cd's?

Nothing, I get a black screen with a blue box in the middle and it asks me how I want to boot. Then it lists, Hard Drive, CD/DVD Rom, A Drive disk, Lan Settings. That's it.

and it just did this out of no where? What were you doing right before it started this?
I take it nothing happens when you hit Hard Drive?
Do this for me when you start up your computer keep hitting F8 and see if you get a screen asking if you want to boot into safe mode. If you do then select safe mode w/ networking support.get in and save all your files and then get out. If not then I have no idea

your bios chip might be burnt up.. or check the battery on the motherboard, it might be dead... all else fails.. u can remove the hard drive and stick it into another computer and back up the files that way. i just woke up and thats all i can think of at the moment... if i come up with ne thing else, ill be sure to post it... good luck

I tried doing that already and it won't recognize the F8 key.

If you hit the delete key will it even let you into the bios?
Normally you get prompted at the post screen to hit the delete key to enter the setup area, and if so. I think you can rule out that its the Bios Chip as suggested above, but then once in there there should be a location within there to see if it sees a HD/CDROM and so fourth...Make sure the HD is the first detected at boot up.
There have been some bad storms in the Upstate recently, and maybe you had a jolt of Lightening hit your PC.
If all fails take the hard drive out and make it a slave drive off of another currently working HD so it will be seen from within another PC. And then you can back the stuff up and try to reload it once again with the restore disc you have been provided.

The BIOS is working, I think some nasty virus jumped into my system and torn it to shreads. I talked to guy at Gamestop and he said he got a virus once that ate all his back-up files and windows itself. I wonder if I got the same thing. Tomorrow my boss is going to bring in his Windows XP cds and we're gonna try it from that route.

I highly doubt some Virus did that, but yes it could happen...If you have a norton a/v cdrom you can boot up with that and it will perform a scan from the master boot sectors and then through on out!
Good luck, i think at this point, you may just wanna rescue what files you do have, and then gettrrrr done!
