Hey all,
Im planning on doing an engine swap in a 1996 Ford Mustang, and the engine I want to put in a 4.6L V-8 engine from a 1997 Ford Mustang GT. I was wondering what all I would need in order to complete the swap. Any assistance and advice is greatly appreciated

You will need a donor car.
Engine, transmission, computer, harness, driveshaft, rear end, radiator, etc etc

the easiest thing is to get a donor car, but that is not always easy to get.
some of the things you will need is a V8 wiring harness, engine, a/c lines, PCM, and a whole lot of other odds and ends

as cheap as the 96-98 gt's are you would be better off selling the v6 and buying one ready to go.Youll spend allot more money chasing down odds and ins then you would if you had a full donor car (as mentioned by HOTTCOBRA) If you are dead set on the swap,Iwould look for a 99 or newer donor car.

I agree with benjytps. It would be easier and cheaper to just buy a 96-98 v8. However, if you really want to do the swap, i would do as others have said, and get a donor car. But i'd get a 99+ 4.6. The hp rating is 260 vs 225. A few good mods and you can reach that hp in your v6. A 99+ v8 is a little harder to reach.

unless u do a pi head swap to the 96-98 motor. the increase in compression and bump in power would be more than a stock 99-04.

Yeah, didn't even think of that. That would work out better.

does anyone have a complete list to swap a 4.6 2v into a 2002 3.8 auto? is it really worth it for me to swap to a 5-speed/6-speed? or is that way too much trouble of an auto to 5-speed conversion? my goals are to build a 600rwhp street car.

im looking into swapping a modular 5.0 2v into my 2002 v6 auto in the upcoming years along with a mega horsepower build. i have a few starter questions though. im just trying to find out how much im gonna need to spend before i really start getting into it. so i have an sct livewire that has tunes for my v6. i bought it brand new and would hate to have to buy a new one. will it work when i do the swap or will i need a new one? also, what do i do about the gauges? id like to get the ones from the cobra or at least the gt. how do i get the speedometer calibrated correctly when i upgrade the gauges? and as far as parts go, what else do i need besides the complete engine, tranny, driveshaft, and rear end? i know i need the wiring harness and ecu.
