I say do it, I like them, other people don't. Well, actually, I like them on 99+ and don't care so much for the 94-98 style.
I dunno what you meant about paint, I would definitely say get a decal if you do it. It's be much easier and cheaper. Besides, if you decide you no longer want it, just get out the hairdryer and pull it off.

Personally, I like them. My stang came with them on it, and although the dealer was going to show me how to take them off, I decided that I wanted them to stay. I think it sets me apart from the other DSG mustangs around town.

The painted strip on the door that you are talking about is actually a "dent" or "ding" protector. Basically meant to protect your door from people opening their car door into yours. Some of the v6's have it, some don't.
I don't see as to why you would want it. Most people take theirs off as it looks pretty nasty (gives it a rental car look). Also, if you plan on bringing your stang to a car show, there have been judges known to subtract points for having it on your doors.
I'm actually going to be removing mine as soon as I have enough time (and patience) to remove the darn thing. If you want them that bad, I can take mine off and send them to you. All you'd need to do was get them stripped, primed and painted (only if your car wasn't dark shadow grey) and then your set.

I thought maybe that's what he was talking about, then I thought, no, surely not...
yeah, that's a piece of plastic molding crap that is supposed to protect the door. My car (thank God) didn't have them, or I would have removed them. I would say definitely NO! to that thing, but a definite YES! to the rocker panel stripe, as you have a 99+

I agree, that "dent protector" is ugly. I wouldn't get it, but do what u like, it is your car and u should have it as u like it.
edit: rocker panel stripes defintly cool

haha, I don't think we have a how-to on this particular topic. Unless one of yall wants to make one. If I'm not mistaken, it's held on w/ 3M tape stuff.

They look worse on the 94-98.
Generally to take them off, it's some fishing line, or whatever, using a hair dryer to heat the tape and and then using the fishing line to saw it off.
