swapping a C5

My '83 Mustang (3.8L) C5 transmission needs repair and I am looking at swapping it with an AOD or possibly a 5Spd. manual from a mid '90's 3.8L Mustang . The bell housing should match the block although I'm not sure if the AOD convertor will match up with my flexplate. The other questions are:is the overall length of the AOD or 5 spd. different than the C5 (meaning possibly altering the driveshaft), will I need to change the yoke on my driveshaft, and hook-up of the cooler lines to the AOD. I know with the 5spd. I would need to put in a flywheel, clutch pedals, and see it shifter would line up with the existing cut out on the transmission hump. Has anyone attempted swapping a C5? Am I better off just sticking another C5 in it?

well if you swap to an AOD you will run into different elec. trans. controls. If you swap to a five speed. the shifter location will be the same, but you may need a new drive shaft.

I'd recommend sticking with the C5, you'd need less new additions than if you decided to an AOD
