Transmissions????

Ok I finally may be able to get the Mustang I want right but it has an auto in it and I want a manual. how hard is it to switch over to a manual? The Mustang is a 97 GT the 4.6 liter.

Dont switch get a Manual to start with. This question keeps coming up and this is not a mod for the inexperienced car owner and the cost of someone else doing it will be expensive. With all the Manual GT's out there just get one of those. I dont understand why people insist on this when the cost of a Manual GT is no more than a Auto

Thanks for the info guys, I wouldnt say I am an inexperienced car owner, I just pulled my buddies 3800 series II engine from his 2000 pontiac GTP, got a new block, switched out one bad piston, installed a new cam and timing chain, put in some comp pushrods and lifters, new heads, ported the exhaust portion of the new heads cuz (they are somewhat bad with back pressure), new comp roller rockers, and some NGK colder spark plugs, and then dropped the motor back in. I am about to polish his Eaton M90 supercharger for him as well. The only reason I asked was because I am still new to the mustang setup so I was wondering how many parts and such would be needed. I havent decided on the mustang I saw, cuz you are right it is easier to just buy one with a Manual already in it. I am not trying to get impatient with my purchase, so I make sure I get what I want to begin with.

yea manuals are cheaper or... are supposed to be from the factory the auto is a 1k~ option, i belive i saved 800 bucks by getting a 5 speed.

From thr factory yes but on the used market they really are about the same

yea probably true in some cases you can get a manual cheaper but in mustangs especially 5.0s and 4.6's most everyone wants a 5 speed probably why they keep their value a little better plus after a couple years the autos really start to suck... and no body wants them
