lol though your babble is well thought out.
id either go with the 1st gen(90-94) eclipse/talon AWD,
or
a 89-92 fox 5.0 cause they have forged bottom end.
both cars should be 3-4 grand so you will have shibbang left over to do some mods.

with the american muscle as you stated, early fox body 5.0 with 5 spd. if its not limited to american there are lots of imports with that price tag that are lighter and faster. for 4500 you might find a 240 with an sr20. g20 with the same. there are many options, definately talon/eclipse awd with the good stuff is more resonable, slightly more common then a 240sx with a turbo sr20. by the way if you cant tell im in love with silvias... sorry guys id sell the stang instantly to own a 240sx silvia converted with a sr20 red or black top turbo and all the wonderful lil gizmos the japanese dont give us in the american versions. although right now im in the process of possibly selling it to split the payments on a 2004 cobra with my father.

'87-'92 IROC-Z or Z28 with the 5.7L TPI motor. Not the fastest cars from the factory, but they're one of the best looking Camaro body styles ever. The sbc 350 has the largest aftermarkets and makes a pretty good platform for building a real performance motor.

Gee, when someone says American musclecar I sure don't think of anything newer than maybe 1974. I don't think of anything with EFI, automatics or power windows/seats/locks.

you could be running 12s extremely easily with a notchback fox body. They are way light and have a great aftermarket.

I say fox. You can easliy pick up a clean unmolested 5.0 for around 2 grand and spend the rest on a HCI
I pretty much did that minus that I went wit a used Procharger kit
