Tornado went thru my base

Well today was an interesting day, at about 10 something we heard tornado sirens on base go off and then we got a phone call about a minute later saying the twister was about 5 minutes away. So we ran outside and got some equipment inside real quick and when I opened the hanger doors you could see the twister about 1/2 mile away. So we ran into our storage room and about 30 sec later the damn thing went right over the top of our shop. No damage to the shop.  But the golf course behind us took a mean beating and about 30 houses south of the base were leveled. Crazy stuff, i'll see if I can get some pics of the damage later.

I love tornadoes, I'm a storm spotter back home, county paid and everything, just don't live there anymore. They still call me every time to see if I'm home however. That adrenaline rush is amazing when you see the funnel forming and call it in.

Ha ha...I got into it from the fire dept, the captain on my zone works for the county unit and needed some help, so he asked me to help. He's now assistant chief on the fire dept and like second in command in the Emergeny Operations Unit for the county. Very cool guy, very cool job lol

sounds cool. I'll never forget when i was a kid, when a huge ass twister went like right over my house. we could feel the house being suctioned it seemed like. it was awesome yet insanely scary.

At least you can see them coming, earthquakes you just gotta deal with it :-/
Tornados though I believe are more powerful and destructive.. but at other times an earthquake can be too.

the waether conditions we are experiencing lately are just so weird...almost think gawd has decided we have made a muck of things and that we have had enough time here to clean things up and we havent, so he has decied to play parent and clean up our back yard for us!

lol there was a tornado here once, everything around my house was messed like shingles trees down powerlines etc, weird thing is nothing of ours was touched...knock on wood...

tornadoes can have wind speeds upward of 300mph... and can be far more destructive than hurricanes. The problem with hurricanes is they just keep coming at ya... tornadoes are just there then gone.

yeh, you can see a tornado one second, and it's gone the next. Weird as anything. Call ina funnel cloud, look back up and it's gone
