I got a 2004 v6 automatic w/ pony and deluxe package and so its got the GT hood scoop. I was interested in getting the shaker hood scoop so I can say I have a FUNCTIONAL scoop, but thought its so much money not worth it. I thought of taking off the honeycomb cover on the scoop and cutting the hood underneath the scoop so that when its running air enters and maybe providing my CAI w/ cooler and more air. Is this possible and will I benefit from it at all?

Well if you cut the hood where the scoop is, it would be blowing air right on top of the intake manifold... I don't think it would do anything noticeable performance wise.

Any serious feedback. I know it would be on top of intake manifold but the whole thing should be cooler as a result of greater air flow.

no the air is not in one spottoo long to take advantage of that hell a shaker system doesent really give you gains eighther. its like ram air no real benifits. dont do it. also if you do what you said about cutting your hood what wiil you do when it rains.

Not very realistic. The hood isnt really made to be taking the pressure from the air coming in. And it wouldnt be easy to cut and make look nice. I recommend doing it the right way and get the shaker. I have the system on mine and I think its worth the money.

I was being serious....I don't think the wind blowing on the intake manifold would be cool enough, to drop the temperature enough, to make any differance.

i say no, don't do it.
Leaves, rain, twigs, bugs, and all kinda crap will end up in ur engine bay. Besides, it won't help.

he is right, kinda like the holes in the 98's hoods (maybe 94-98 but deff 98's) does not to anything to cool the engine.

also your hood isnt strogn enough. i believe MAC was in the stages of producing a kit to use the gt hood scoop and create a ram air system. problem was when the cut the honeycomb off the hood and cut a hole in the hood the scoop was grabbing so much air that the hood was jumping and vibrating really bad from 30 +. its a fiberglass hood. if it was steel it might be different. but if you cut that thing you are seriously going to regret it. if you could figure out a way to reinforce the hood both ways and still clear the intake it would work... but untill then.. youll be saying good by to either yourhood scoop as it rips of, or the paint as it stress cracks from all the bending.

The only way I can see this working is if you were to make a ventilation vent from the opening and then down to your CAI, as the Mach1 has.
And the hood would vibrate way to much as well as stated, cause the hood are just like sheet metal when it comes to sturdyness thats for sure...
And to much dis belief the shaker and a ram air does work for gained power adding, but you wont see much power gain until around a higher speed or in cooler weather conditions!
