I asked a friend of mine who dropped his car and truck by heating the spring and compressing them never actually cutting them. I'm not sure however if he compressed the spring throughout or only one ring. He said it works but risk bending my tires w/o cc plates.
I went out to a muffler shop and he said he could heat my spring up and squeeze a ring together. I don't think it's a good idea to have one ring touching the one underneath w/o space to spring. I question this guys knowledge and I feel like he wouldn't know what's best or if it matters or not. He'll do it for 40 bucks.
I'm afraid getting it done and soon after being forced to buy springs, shocks/struts, and cc plates. I want to drop it only .5" - 1" for now to be on the safe side and minimize odds of my shit breaking as a result.
What method do you suggest ponycarman...anyone else?

Dude why bother doing something that is so risky when you can buy Ford C-Springs for 100 bucks and install them and get the EXACT drop you want. C-springs will give you about a 1" drop maybe alittle more.
The more corners you try to cut the more stuff you risk screwing up. Do it right the first time.
Ford C-Springs will give you the drop you want and you wont need C&C plates

uh you can forget getting a good alignment with Eibach springs. I have the pro kit and it dropped my car 1.85 inches in the front and 1.5" in the back!!!

You know after all this arguing I've thought bout it and...it cost 40 to have them heated and compressed and 100 for Ford's C spring. I think I'll just wait and not ghettafy my stang. I'm still not sure and will seriously consider it if I can get someone who feels comfortable when telling how he would do it. Cuz the guy I talked to last time didn't know shit.

You never heat up springs Period. All work done on a spring is done cold work. You never use a torch to cut spring steel. You cannot Eyeball heating up springs to somehow like magic come out with a different uniform compression rate. Anyone that told you it could be done is a complete idiot.
In the most strictest enviroment using a engineering shop with a Heat Treat furnace and years of data involving a trial and error testing on springs would you ever be able to accurately heat spring to come up with a desired new compression rate. So after spending thousands of dollars to do this you could have bought a Cobra or at least a $120 set of springs.

regardless of this and that corey is right you never heat up a spring... and cutting the ford stock springs is a bad idea (the rear wont have much of an issue if you only cut a coil or so but still... whats the point when you cant cut the front...), ive seen it done and the aftermath is bad... they bounce and have more body roll its just a very bad idea.

You can alighn the car with the stock plates, but you very limited. The factory plates can't put caster and is very limited to putting camber. I recommend caster camber plates because you get more adjustments like camber caster and full strut travel.
