yeah, like the whole engine. if it sucks up something and damages the engine, you don't think they would pin it on the cai?
the ONLY thing that does not void any part of your warrenty is a cat-back exhaust. and that is because after that cats, you can do anything you want. it changes nothing with the emissions of the car or other law stuff and thus is totally legal.

well, if you ever have to take it to ford , just put your stock air box back in, and they wont know you ever had a cai  |

I went to my ford dealer and they said that any mod to the car except interior and body kits void the warranty. The guy said they can tell if you have screwed around with your intake and what not. And yes the exhaust voids the warranty also. |

a cat-back cannot void the warrenty. there is a federal law saying so. go talk to another dealership and ask about cat-back and not just "exhaust"
because anything after the cats has no effect on the SMOG rating or places excess stress on any body part.

i didnt read this thread, so it might alreayd be stated but...
to void the warranty, they have to prove that the modification caused it.
but, dealerships will always be dicks, and to get your way you might have to get a lawyer.
if something goes wrong, just put your stock crap back on. |

lol, if they accuse you of taking off your air box, say you make a mark on your retaining bolt... just say you were changing the air filter  ... that's SUGGESTED by them .

Mods that will just about always void a warranty are: Chip/Flash tune (they can tell if you flash back to stock if you don't have enough drive cycles afterwards), supercharger/turbo charger/nitrous, engine mods.
Mods that could raise any eyebrow, but they would have to prove it caused the issue: Underdrive pulleys, throttle body swaps.
Things that will typically never void a warranty: CAI, any exhaust work (catback, mid pipes, headers). Granted, it is illegal to remove properly functioning catilitic converters from a car...but if you "accidentally" obtain a puncture hole from a rock (read screw driver), it is no longer properly functioning. 
Basically, modding is done at your own risk. Any dealer at any time can refuse warranty service for any mod if they want to be dicks. There is a law that prevents that from happening, however. The dealerships are banking on the fact that you are uneducated to that fact since they will get paid for non-warranty work. They make nothing on warranty repairs. The dealer is required to prove that your mod caused the problem before they can legally void your warranty. But again, they bank on your "stupidity" on the subject.
