Should a v-6 stock automatic 2000 stang be able to beat a 02 f-150?
From a standing stop at a stop light the guy was revving his engine a bit and so from the stop light I hit the gas and pulled away, then hesitated a little and finally floored it (maybe a second after starting) I was about 3/4 car length ahead then around 50mph he started gaining and was 1/2 length ahead by the time we hit 80.
Is this normal?
If it is normal, I'm definately giving a bigger part of my pay check next week to making sure it doesn't happen again.

depends on what the F-150 has for a motor was it a V6 or a V8 and of course the driver. I can tell you from 60 MPH a SVT Lightning and my V6 punched it on a open Highway and he really did not pull on me at all we stayed about even to 110 and we both slowed down. Brent, n8r and Whitestang99 Nick were driving behind me and saw it happen.

Is your v6 modded farily heavily?
If I had gotten a good start he wouldn't have passed me until around 80 or 85, and my OD was on. Would it have shifted into 4th even with the gas to the floor? I didn't pay much attention to gear shifts but my accelation died at 75mph.
All I know is it made me mad and motivated to make the v6 faster. And re-affirmed my goal to buy a top of the line mustang (whatever it may be) a few years down the road when my wife and I finish our masters degrees

Ahh ok that makes me feel a little better about loosing. It was dark so I'm not sure if it was a lightning or not but it looked like quite a bit of appearance mods had been done and sounded like exhaust but no idea if it was only external mods to it.
But I just found out I have some extra money coming it soon so I'll be ordering a CAI and possibly UDP this week, and going to go scouting the junk yard for exhausts. If I can't find them there I will probably do 3.73s and t-lok then look into exhausts later.
Thanks for the help man. I'm still really new to stangs and racing. I've been driving 4cyl rangers the last 8 years from high school through the end of college and just bought a mustang this monday.

yeah, i saw the Lightning vs. Corey race.
they did stay even, I was surprised. I expected the lightning to pull much harder. Guess I was wrong. Didn't he compliment you on your "GT" too Corey?

Hey elijah, was the truck an extended cab or standard cab. And regular truck bed or styleside? Easy way to tell what it was

so it probably had the 4.2 v6. yes, a stock 4.2 can beat a stock 3.8 depending on both driver's abilities.

Not sure about step or flare sides, but it wasn't a straight bed, the streeet light was on the opposite side of the the truck and the shadow fell right on my car, he sits a little higher than me
