Stroker Kit

I am thinking about getting a stroker Kit but I am not sure if all the money is worth the gains. I would get Forged internals but I do not plan on getting a S/C or Nitrous.

What are the benefits of boring the engine to .030?

What are the potential Gains?

why would you need a forged rotating assembly if you don't plan on adding forced induction? The only reason you would need forged rods and pistons, etc is so you can rev higher. you would need strong rods as well as strong rod bolts for that. but don't forget your heads you have now would prolly need to be made a little larger for the exhaust ports. I don't know about the cam, but it seems kinda small and might run out of steam around 5500-6k rpms.

benefits are that you do it if the cylinder walls need to be bored due to wear. You can concievably get another 0.1L out of boring the engine, but it thins out the cylinder walls to where you only do it if you need to.

i would say that going to a 4.2L, you will see about 5-10% more torque and maybe 5% more hp. the main thing is the torque increase.

the cheapest way to do it, since you really don't need forged, would be to get a 4.2L engine from a 97 F150 and remove the rotating assy. and then install it on your car. If you can do the work yourself, it would cost about $1000 for the F150 engine.

I was thinking of getting the forged internals because of the abuse they can take. I have been asking around for help on this subject and you are the first one I had a good reply from.
I am not a gear head at all. I am just a chump with some money who is looking for a way to better his mustang.

So a 97 F-150 internals would fit inside a 2002 V6 engine? How about just installing the entire engine since I hear the engine is basically a bored out 3.8 engine. Like I said correct me if I say anything thats wrong because I do not know. Thanks for the advice

yes the 4.2 and 3.8 share the same block

yes, you can go ahead and swap the entire engine (as long as you have a 99+) You would then need to swap the head, cam, intake setup you have, so it's up to you. If you can't do the work yourself, you are looking at about $1000-1200 for labor just because of the time consuming nature of the project.

Well actually you can use any crank, pistons and rods from a 97-current 4.2 F150 or E150. Also, you can use the same heads and lower intake, but would need to swap out the upper intake so it'll clear your hood. But you can even use the upper intake if you have a cobra RR hood or something.
As for the gains. You will see anywhere to about 20-30 more torque and very little horsepower. About 5-10 tops horsepower. Since you have a 2002 block. I personally don't think you would need to bore it. When I stroked my block, i used my orginal 3.8 1997 block with 110,000 miles and i could still see the orginal hone from the factory. So I just re-honed it to remove the glaze and put my stroker kit in.

yeah, that's what I was saying, but he already has a new cam and ported intakes and heads. so it would be beneficial if he threw his heads,cam and intakes on the new 4.2L so he gets more of a gain.

im planin on doing this 4.2 crank and piston change . but do i need to balance the crank whne i change it?

a 3.8 engine( earlier ones) were externally balanced. a 4.2 is internally balanced some with the balance shaft so check the dynamics of your motor first.

Actually I just saw the PowerDyne Kit Pete is selling. Those are the numbers I am looking for but I am trying to stay away from S/C.

as long as your cylinder hones are fine, it is a bolt on (so-to speak) seeing as how your car is 2yrs old, i would suspect that they would be fine.
