O no, Gas Tank Leakage

I walk out of our mall today after getting shweet new shoes, and theres a cop standing over by my car motioning towards a tow truck on the other side of the lot. I'm like "WTF, why's my car being towed?!". Turns out, the tube going from the fuel door to my tank srang a leak and dumped a 1/4 tank of gas all over the lot. Some dick called the cops....

Anywho, I got the car home and took a look at it. Seems like the rubber thing selaing the tank deteriorated away almost completely on the bottom. Think I can just JB Weld this up or maybe seal it with something else?? I'm worried that the gas will just eat through if I seal it with something. I don't want to work with the gas tank cause I dont have a fire extinguisher handy and I just got the car back fromt he shop.

Considering that has something to do with the gas tank and gas can cause a nice fire, and car fires can cause explosions... I think if it was me, I would take it in and get it fixed...

OK here is a picture of the Fuel filler tube Grommet

The part number is LRS-9270A for 1979 to 1997

It can be purchased at any Ford dealership for around $20.00 max. They might have to order it but will only take a day or you can order it from 50resto.com

I changed mine in about an hour. I will post tonight the removal/ installation instructions. it is not hard and does not require you to empty the tank.

Is the the upper piece that connects the fueldoor part to the tube or the lower piece that connects the tank to the tube? :wtf2:

And you thinkk I could get it on without ddraining the whole tank or removing it?

yes this part is the grommet that attaches to the tank and the filler tube goes thru. Like I said I had to change mine. I had between a half and aquarter tank in mine when I did it.

The basic removal is
1. Remove the screws that hold fuel door on and 2 others that hold the rubber bumpers
2. Remove the 2 or 3 screws inside the fuel door area that go around the fuel pipe. 1 will have the fuel cap lanyard attached
3. remove the right side trunk interior panel
4. Remove screws in fuel drain box inside the trunk (Plasic box thing)
5. slide under car behind right wheel and remove the band clamp on the fuel tube boot and remove boot.
6.You will see the tube going into the tank you will see an "L" bracket you will need to remove it.
7. Remove the right rear fuel tank strap bolt. You might have to pry down a little to get the filler tube to clear the tank to be able to remove the old grommet and install the new grrommet

wow i thought i was the only one that happened to i cant fill mine more then half way i used sum gas tank sealer stuff from autozone but it still drips out but its not as bad thanks for the intructions full tank here i come

Same thing happened to me, this little grommet just cracked and leaked gas slowly on my driveway.

Bought the part and replaced it.
