As Mustang enthusiasts, we were saddened by the news of automotive legend Carroll Shelby’s passing last month. Fighting illness, the man who helped pave what the auto world today passed at the good old age of 89.

However, there’s a fight going on still over Carroll Shelby. His family won’t let him rest in peace just yet. Carroll’s body is still sitting in Dallas County Morgue as his wife, Cleo, and son, Michael, both fight over what Shelby would have wanted. According to court documents, Carroll gave permission to his son to have his remains cremated.

Shelby’s sixth wife, who lives in California, says that the documents have been forged and that she was given Power of Attorney two years ago to give him a burial. The three children and the wife have been in a heated dispute over the whole thing, and according to one of Shelby’s other sons, it may take weeks to be resolved.

According to Edmund’s Inside Line, Carroll Shelby’s son, Patrick, is pleading for the body to be released. According to him, this is not a monetary dispute since the entire estate is left to the children’s foundation. This battle is about one thing, control. Shelby’s three children all stemmed from his first marriage to Jeanne Fields.

A divorce was filed between Shelby and his sixth and final wife, Cleo, this year in February. Although it isn’t clear what Cleo plans to do with the remains, Patrick says that his dad wanted to be cremated and buried on the family burial plot in Texas. The morgue can only do what the court tells them so this ugly battle keeps raging on.

Hopefully this battle will simmer soon and Carroll Shelby can indeed rest in peace.
