Mercedes SLS AMG, Porsche 911 Turbo S, ’08 Nissan GT-R; Boss 302 Laguna Seca Beats Them All
One of the measuring sticks of greatness is “mine is bigger than yours”. Another is “mine cost more than yours”. But one of the most fun ways to measure greatness is…”mine is way faster than yours AND costs less than 1/10, 1/4, or 1/3 the price”. Smart and sexy.
What am I talking about? Mustangs of course. Specifically, the lap times of the 2012 Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca around the track it is named after. I know this is old news, but once in a while it is nice to be reminded of just how awesome the team at Ford did when they put together the Boss 302.
Here is a partial list of the cars, lap times and who tested them at Mazda’s Laguna Seca Raceway;
Year / Make/ Model Lap Time Driven By
2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 LS 1:39.50 Road & Track
2010 Porsche 911 (997) Turbo S 1:40.11 Road & Track
2009 Audi R8 V10 5.2 FSI 1:40.20 Road & Track
2012 Ford Mustang Boss 302 1:40.21 Motor Trend
2008 Nissan GT-R 1:40.45 Motor Trend
2010 Mercedes SLS AMG 1:40.74 Bern Schneider
2010 Chevrolet Camaro SS 1:45.70 Motor Trend
For the semi-complete list, head on over to FastLaps.com. But keep in mind, it is a fan website, kind of like Wikipedia, so the list isn’t definitive or absolute, or up to date. But, to keep things in perspective, Motor Trend pitted the 2011 Mustang GT with all the options, except the glass roof, against a brand new M3 with the Competition Package. And the difference between the two performers was onion skin thin.
