One Lap Around Road Of America In A Shelby GT500
Hau Thai Tang, the Director of SVT, takes the 2007 Shelby GT500 Mustang for one lap around the Road of America road course in Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin to test the cars handling ablility and top end power. Road America is a four-mile road course with fourteen demanding turns to make sure that the GT500 gets a full test of its capabilities.
The GT500 seems to perform very well on the Road of America course sparking new hope into many doubters of the GT500′s performance. Many have been worried that the Shelby GT500′s weight of nearly 4,000 pounds for a coupe would take away from the 500HP and 475TQ that the 5.4L Supercharged engine produces. However, as Hau Thai Tang rows through the gears coming off a turn you can hear the supercharger come to life as the whine grows increasingly loud and the GT500 vaults into its power band producing a top speed of 136mph on the first back stretch of the track. The passenger also mentioned that they were beginning to catch of to the Ford 500 that was running in front of them.
