If you are just drag racing then get some spherical bushings for the uppers, poly on the axle side, good lowers, reinforce the boxes and go. If you want handling then swap to an IRS.

This car isn't going to be single purpose. It's job will be to be fun all-round. That will mean some compromises. I did ok with my '88 on the stock suspension with police uppers, Lakewood traction action lowers and no bars, on Eibachs and Monroes back in the 90s. I wouldn't go that route today, frankly but, we will stick with stock architecture for now. That setup was surprisingly good handling, once I got the marshmallow CA bushing out with the smoke wrench up front and replaced them with poly. It didn't need the huge bars anymore after that.

The gifts just keep on coming here....there is a mini-starter in this thing as well Counter-balancing that is the O2 harness has been chopped off roughly at the sensor, so I'll need some new O2s...assuming there is even a place to install them. I'm aiming to pull the exhaust and motor mounts today, in prep for the new pan install.

K member and engine/trans out of donor. All without an engine hoist. Damn the K member is unwieldy but, it's really all practical geometry and basic physics.

Looking forward to seeing if you can reinstall the engine using that same procedure, only in reverse.
After all, it is just practical geometry and basic physics...

Don't see too much of an issue winching the engine up that way. Once the K is out, you can maneuver the engine in from the side , centre it and winch it up using the 4X4 across the fender inners, at the strut mount. That's how I got it off the V8 K. The harder job will be getting the oddly balanced K member in place, especially with the struts, brakes and spindles still on. I think I'll need all three of my jacks for that. One centred and one under one of the rear ears. Then it's kind of push each one up a little at a time, until I can line the struts up, push them up with the third jack, throw a nut on each side and push the K into final position to get the bolts in.

Definitely having these cars side by side indicates the massive numbers of small changes made to V8 this car. The big stuff is obvious but there are a million little things like the sway bar mounts are different, the bolts for the k are bigger, etc. The K itself IS actually different V6 to V8. a rough measure bolt-to-bolt at the a arm pickup shows the V8 K to be approximately 2" wider. the A arms themselves are the same length but, that wideness will translate into greater front track width.

I am beginning disassembly of the V6 car now. I'm going to try and drop the engine, trans, K and exhaust Y all together. That'll be heavy but, if I can do it, I'll save alot of disassembly time.

Clank....out she comes.

Redneck engineering at it's best for moving heavy stuff.

Full retro on the interior.

Now it is trying to figure out how to integrate the wiring harnesses into something that will work.

The puzzle is assembled now. All the heavy mechs are done, now it is just wiring. I started stripping back the 88 harness I completely removed from the donor, eliminating things I don't need, like taillights, hatch popper, etc. Tons to strip out but, I really only ned the engine harness and some basics. The 86 has things already in place like FPR, electric pump, level gauge, etc. so, I just need to merge things at the right places. Having stripped it all back, and twist tied all the necessary wires together, I can be absolutely sure what wire does what, because it is separated and still connected to the thing it did what for.

Engine harness/ECM in, battery and starter connected, upper mani back on, vac lines done. All electrical sub-systems seem to work, lights, horn, signals, gauge lights, etc. Just figuring out out how to provide switched power to a few things....then, I guess it's roll it over and see if it starts!

She's got open headers right now and no cooling system installed for easy access but, I think I should roll it once I get the wiring done, just to confirm it works. This car is essentially built completely out of stuff from a JY so, some issues might be revealed.....

Looking great. Like I said before I always preferred the early 79-86 foxes, can't wait to see it done.
