Bypass heater question 91 Gt 5.0

Hello my heater core is leaking, I temporarily bypassed the heater core by looping at the water pump inlets. Not worried about heat at present can I leave it looped at the water pump or is it best to loop it at the firewall? Not sure if the coolant needs to flow in the metal pipe or not.

Thanks for your help.

You can leave it looped at the water pump.
