A/C Evap Replacement - Need Opinions

I just replaced the floor carpeting in my 2002 GT. I spent just over $300 (including shipping) to use NOS OEM Ford carpeting (Dark Charcoal) that I was lucky enough to find at Vintage Parts, in Wisconsin. Since my interior is still half apart, and since I don't want a 17 year old (probably; no idea if it was ever previously replaced) heater core leaking all over my brand-new carpeting, I've decided to pull my dash and remove the evaporator case, so I can install a new heater core (it's not currently leaking; this is just preventive maintenance).

Since I'm going to pull the evaporator case for the heater core, I decided it would probably be prudent to also replace the evaporator core, as that's probably 17 years old, too. Mind you, my air conditioner is functioning just fine, currently, so I'd be doing this also as preventative maintenance. I've replaced a leaking heater core in a '97 T-Bird, and while it wasn't super hard, I'd prefer to not have to remove my Mustang's dash a second time, should the evap core go bad, later on.

Opinions? Should I bother with the evap core while I've got the case out for the heater core, or am I being WAY too particular?

Has anyone on here ever replaced an evap core on these Mustangs? I understand the case is sealed - can it be opened, and then resealed, afterwards?

Thanks!

It's been a while since I did mine, and I didn't replace the evaporator, but I believe that the evaporator is no problem to access.
I haven't had any problems with the evaporator, but I did regret not replacing it while the dash was out of the car.
I don't think that you are being overly particular.... disassembling half of the interior is no small task!

Good luck!

I've never had to do the evap or heater core and I've had some old SN95s... Now that I've said that. Yeah if you want to do them while the dash is out that's the easiest time.
