Thinking about trading in the V6 for a GT maybe. Found a 2014 6 speed manual 23k miles for 20k. How's that sound? My currently ride is in immaculate condition with 60k on it. Not sure what I want to do.

I got my base model '13 M6 GT with 7k miles for $26, so id say yours is a pretty good deal. I'd say go drive it.

I look at it like this. I've played drums for about 15 years now, and a few years ago guitar center had this wicked drum kit out on display... It was a chunk of change, and i wanted it, but i didnt think i wanted to pay it. Every few months i'd stop in and look at the kit and get to dreaming again. Finally after like 6-8 months of this i just bought it. I figured if its still on my mind after all this time i obviously want it you know. How long have you been thinking about a GT? Is this one just a good deal that caught your eye, or have you been looking?

I know the feeling. It was between headers and a catted x pipe or a new Stratocaster American Standard. I was single at the time and bought both :). I'm married now and would have had to pick one :(

While I really enjoyed my V6, it looks like Ford has pretty much dropped it support wise from the future due to the release of the twin turbo 4. It's safe to say that existing performance parts will still stay around, but any future development will most likely focus on the twin turbo 4 and 5.0 if you are into performance mods.

I've been pleased with my V6. I've done some mods and considered just keeping and modding further. I prefer a GT but I'm looking at tacking on 10k to the cost of the vehicle over my V6 just to get there.

Yeah, I'm torn as well. With all the mods I've done, I'm not sure I want to trade up. On top of that, I like the sort of retro look of my 2014 over the newer designs.
MODS:
Tire size 235/50-18

01. Ford Mustang California special upper and lower grill
02. Ford Performance Racing bullitt wheels
03. K&N TYPHOON CAI
04. Roush 421145 Exhaust System
05. Ford Performance Racing suspension package
06. Ford red powder colored calipers
07. BBK 73mm Throttle Body
08. BAMA tuner
09. JBA Shorty stainless steel headers - JBA 1618S
10. OEM Cylinder head cover
11. polished T-304 Stainless Engine Fuse Box Cover
12. Pony Horse Tri-Bar Emblem for the fuse box cover

Now, I got a letter from a local dealership wanting me to upgrade to a new car...

- Offering me 16,860.00 for mine.
- I "may" receive an additional 5,850 more than the estimated value.
- Plus trade in on a new Ford of my choice at a discount substantially lower than the retail selling price and may save me up to 2000 off the MSRP.
- Plus, lol, 500.00 and an additional 500+ plus 0% financing for 72 months.

Sounds too good to be true, and like I said, not really crazy about the new style, but its soooo tempting. And if I did make a deal, I'd feel as if they somehow managed to put one over on me and give me buyers remorse.
My negotiating skills suck and I have no one to go with me to tell me if I'm crazy when I go "I don't care what it costs, just give me the keys...".

I got my 2014 Base GT with TrakPak, Recaro's and it came with an SCT tuner and Airaid CAI...it had less than 3000k miles and I paid a hair less than Voltwings...that was in late 2014. The first owner traded it in on a new 2015 Corvette.
I proceeded to spend another $5k+ on mods that I wanted to suit my driving style...the car was certainly not a DD.
Spending $10k for another 100hp, or $100 for every HP just seems a bit over the top to me when you can do minor mods that will make it handle as well or better than a GT.
Yes, you will certainly notice the difference in the extra HP I just don't think another $10k is worth it, plus you will take a bath on selling your 2012...IMHO
I sold my 2014 TrakPak and now drive an ATS-V...it has four doors and will almost match the road handling capabilities of my mod'd 14 and the Mag-Ride is fantastic...sure it's expensive although the 464hp and Mag-Ride kind of makes up for some of that...I'm over 70 and my days of wanting a compromise between a street car/drag car/track car are over.
If it were me...as they say "Hindsight is 20/20"...I'd stick with the Mustang you have and make the car yours...then wait to see what Ford does in the next couple of years and then make you're decision...from watching what Roush/Ford are doing with the GT40/twin turbo V6 I think the handwriting is on the wall and even the great 5.0l will fall by the wayside...remember this design starting with the 4.6l has been around for over 20 years.
Just my 2 cents worth.

I agree with you olerodder. Like most car makers, Ford is going with the smaller turbo motors. EcoBoost 4 cylinders will be the new 6 cylinder and the EcoBoost 6 cylinder will be the new v8 :(

You just really have think about what you want. Analyze pros and cons and make an informed decision. Pros of the gt would be the extra hp and fun for sure especially with track pack. Not only that but a turbo or supercharger in the future could make the car even more fun and you could make more horsepower than even a Shelby. Now the cons would be higher insurance every month and more expensive gas. I have a friend who got a gt and can't afford to take it out because of how expensive premium gas is and the gas Mileage on the gt. So I ask you this who has more fun me in my daily driver v6 every day or him in his occasional rides with his gt. Now whatever you do make sure you are informed on what car you are buying. For example looking back at my car I knew nothing about mustangs except what the online reviews said. I didn't know about the extra cost of my ruby red paint which favored me but at the same time I didn't realize I could have gotten a mustang with 3.31 gears which would have made me happier. So just take your time, before you drive it make sure it's what you want because once ur in the seat of the gt doing burnouts and feeling all the horsepower and torque you will fall in love with it.

This is not realistic at all. You're looking at 10-14k for a V6 with low mileage. A GT with 25k-50k is at least 19k plus. More like 22k on average.

I like to make lists and assign weighted averages to whatever objective values i can come up with.

For example if we take weight:

V6: ~3400
V8: ~3600

So the V6 would get a score of 10 for being the lighter car, and the GT would get a score of ~9.4 for being heavier (3400/3600)*10

Then take horsepower:
v6: 305
v8: 420

GT would get a score of 10 for having more HP and the v6 would get a score of 7.2 (305/420)*10.

So basically at the end you add up all the points and see what the "best" car is. Try to use objective values like MPG, insurance, weight, cost, mileage... Obviously a car purchase is never purely objective, but it helps to see things laid out like that.

that^^^^ is it worth time to look = yes, but only if you can afford one.

side note: I compared two runs to my friends V8 both in the 100 mile or so length and driving with each other and there is a 15% difference. Do NOT get a V6 expecting a huge fuel savings. Yeah 15% is significant but the real number is $200-300 per year

...MPG readings of Rob's V8 with 3.55 and my V6 with 3.31 car #'s only

on the route Rob 18.6 Mud 22.6 140 miles 4th gear twisties

on the hwy return trip R 23.3 M 26.8 75 miles pure hwy 75 mph

both of us have the oem Nero's rob's are I think 18" mine are the 19-245-45?

these were the car #'s mine tends to read a bit low and with those tires the real numbers are a touch better as my GPS will read a touch slow compared to actual. I will say again...don't get a v6 for mpg although what it gets for what it does is great.

My V6 gets around 25 on the interstate and probably 23 mixed. I have 3.55s so it knocks it down some.

I picked up a 2014 Mustang GT Premium with 44k miles for $24,700 out the door (roughly $23k for the car).

The car was in Charlotte, NC.

2014 Mustang GT Premium GHIG
44,000 miles
Recaros
Track Pack (actual track pack)
Rear Sensors

Thought it was a pretty good deal! and love the car. Also had tasteful mods already on it such as Roush rear valance w/ roush axle-back square tips. Real GT500 spoiler, and a cute shiftknob.

just go in and say "screw it, gimme the keys". get the v8 and you won't regret it. I have always had the v8. my wife got a v6 years ago and I hated the no power when compared to my v8s.

I wouldn't say the V6 has no power. Mine has 3.55s / tune and will bark 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gear. It's faster than the Charger R/T and G37S I had.

There's a couple gt mustangs for about 18 of course negotiating you could get price down a bit because I have done business with them and they negotiate not much but a bit. Also take a look in the inventory at the 2014 black v6 they have its 14000 but it's a base coupe only option is fog lights granted it has 10000 miles on it. What I'm saying though is with the extra mods when you go to trade in the car it should be worth as much as a gt. Also depending on budget there are some nice built gt mustangs on Orlando Craigslist. Just saw one for 25000 with tons of options.

I let them keep my wheels, stereo, axlebacks but they gave me 2k more than what I owed on it. The only thing I really wanted was the stereo because I just bought it a couple months ago. I paid less than they were asking and they gave me a great offer on my car so I couldn't pass it up.

^ I've been loving my 5.0 for the last 2 hours since I picked it up, lol. Going from a base model to a premium is a huge difference. My leather seats with suede inserts are very comfortable. I like that they have adjustable lumbar support. Really love the glass roof, I'll see how much I love it in the summertime when it's 115 though.
