You guys may remember first asking what mods I'd need to beat a 04 GT w/ my v-6 later I found it was a bit unlikely. I know 4.6 98 stangs pack about 230 hp only 40 more than mine so I know that's attainable, but exactly how? What would be the most cost-efficient way to get there? :smoke:

By the way, one of you guys asked me to put up pics of my car, that's it as my avatar. Like it, it's got the pony package that's why it has the GT scoop and different wheels although you can hardly tell.

You will need more then bolt ons for sure though. Also have to look at the torque curve of GT and compare that. Don't just compare peak numbers either, you must look at the entire hp and tq curve

Bolt ons you say, dual exhaust, power pulleys, CAI, shift kit, and gears...what else? I think it'd be pretty close after Stage 1.

Can someone provide a link to hp and tq charts w/ interpretations?

Yeah I'm sure, but not a real big fan of 'nawz'. It's like cheating. Like bodybuilders who are juicing.

Dual exhaust, CAI and pulley will net you about 15-17 HP

Duals 3-5 hp max
CAI 0-5 HP max
UDP 5-7 HP max

So you could have as little as 8 hp and a Max of 17 Hp with those mods. Remember manufactures claims are bogus!!!!

I deal in reality

nitrous is a legitimate power adder.

Remeber, you can't just add up hp numbers for different bolt ons to get the final number, it will give an estimation is all.

Also, even with bolt ons you won't come close to the torque numbers of a 98 GT. Full exhaust and intake will maybe get you 15 hp but you might lose some torque. underdrive pulley's are your best bet. You will definitely want the gears to get the torque back after the exhaust.

all of the bolt ons may get you 20-25 hp, but you won't pick up that much in torque. (and I'm being generous)

I have the impression that hp translate in car's balls giving it the ability to quickly raise the mph gauge. Torque is that jerk that you feel as you slam the gas, what glues you to the seat. But if you are glued to your seat that means your picking up quickly which is the same as the definition I provided for hp. Can someone clear up the hp/tq picture I have and how they apply on the road?
So w/ dual exhaust on its own will I run fast at all?

torque is what slams you to your seat, take a foreign car like a skyline for example they have horsepower thus they fly on highways with very high top speeds, but a car like a mustang has torque which will win from a stoplight. Dual exhaust is a good starting point but it will NOT make your car fast. In short there is no cost efficient way to get fast, power is money, unless of course you use nitrous.

btw, not many people still have a "stock 98 GT".....
Most are stock. see I go all over the place traveling and I stop and talk to people to see if they want to join the UMC club here in Greenville or want to come th aour stang site and most stang owners say they are not into it they just consider their stang another car. Now owners under 25 it is a different story but under 19 and some of the cars are owned by mommy and she wont let there be mods HEHEHEHHEEHHEE

Plain and simple

98gt's are the most powerfule pre 99gt's having 225hp and 275tq~ or 280 something like that, if you run an auto you will need to be able to muster beter than a 15.3 to do good, most pre 99 gts with auto run 15.5~ give or take so a 15.3 is a good measure.

for a manual 15.0 give or take 2-3 tenths~ for driver and what not both of these times are very doable with just bolt ons and gears, the 99s ups run 14.2s on average so it takes a bit more to run that... cam/heads/intake and you should be easily in the 13s with a 5 speed.

this is for stock or near stock gt's.... there are few of these lol so its better to just set you a goal to run in the quarter mile and just work toward that.
