recently my car hit a curb a bit too rough when i was leaning down to grab my cell phone. stupid, i know :p and now i have a split hubcap. i could just go get a replacer from ebay, junkyard, etc. but, i always hated the hubcaps on the car anyway, so im curious, just how universal are hubcaps? say, i have a '98 mustang, but i have an '05 taurus. or even different makes, like a 15" chevy cavalier. are all 15" rims, for the most part, able to be swapped around, so long as the valve stems dont get smashed? i would at least think that all fords would match up, chevys would match up, etc.

all rims are made equal. Th only difference for you would be size. If the rim is designed to take a hubcap (ie, black without finished metal showing) then you can go to any store and buy a new set of hubcaps or switch them from car to car. The only problem that I have had is the security of the cap with ones from the store. They tend to no fit as tight as OEM parts from the same make and model of vehicle.
