So I have a 16 Mustang GT auto transmission and have on two separate occasions had issues with my transmission. From a parked position (while the car is running) and shift it into reverse, the transmission feels like it’s in neutral. Then shifting it into drive from reverse still feels like neutral. There’s no noises or bark clunks of any kind. After shifting through reverse, neutral, drive a few times it goes into gear seamlessly. It has me concerned that’s it’s now happened twice. Has anyone dealt with this issue that can advise me what may be causing this because the car has no shifting issues while driving at any speeds. It seems related to shifting out of park.

I have a 2015 and this has never happened to me. I think I would contact a dealer and have them at least look at it?

Sluggish reverse shift

There was a TSB on 2013-14 with 6R80 with sluggish engagement to reverse.Look up TSB 13-4-15.
May have creeped its way back in later model years.
Had the repair done on my 13 and it still does it sometimes

Ok I will check that out. So far it’s only happened twice but wanted other people’s input to see if it’s a known issue. It shifts perfectly fine so I’m hoping the worst case scenario is something like a sensor or something

My 13 V6 same issues but only when certain people are following me, could it be some kind of RF signal that certain vehicles put out like let’s say an xfinity van I pass it and I’m in 6th and it says no u need to be in 2nd. I reset the system and drive off normal and doesn’t happen for a week or so then I happen pass same xfinity van and I upshift to 6th trying to pull out. I’ve ran ohm meter to sensors and they are at normal operating limits. Idk I’m just wondering if some trolls not screwing with people because they have no life’s

So since my original post it’s been shifting fine. It seemed to only have sluggish shifting from park to reverse to drive when my mustang was parked at in incline or decline. Very strange but so far so good and hoping it stays fine. I still don’t understand why the cold weather or the being parked on a hill has to do with the transmission “grabbing” gears from park but I’m not going to complain while it’s working ok

Very similar symptoms to a automatic transmission that is low on fluid.
I don't think that your car has a transmission dipstick, and there is probably a sensor inside of the transmission that should send an alert of a low transmission fluid condition, I suppose.

Just a random thought...
