Hey everyone,
I am considering buying a semi-rusted 1966 mustang with all original parts/engine. Engine is said to have 90k original miles on it. I know rust is a huge problem for cars but am not looking to put it in any shows jsut want somehting driveable. Was newly painted.
Question 1: What can some one tell me about the VIN and what it means.
Question 2: What is a reasonable offer to pay in cash for a car in this shape?

Thanks so much everyone, best answer 10 POINTS!

Use this:

That will decode the warranty number for you. A VIN wasn't officially accepted until after 1980, so a 1966 has a warranty number, not a VIN.

The car was an original inline 6 car. Pretty much, the lowest, most undesireable version of the car. Being all original, doesn't do a thing for it.

I'd say...in the neighborhood of $1500. If that. More like $1200.

the vin will tell you production date -which car in the build it is-what engine is in it-what if any specialty items it might have come with-and where it was built.it came with a straight 6-with three on the tree if standard on the floor if auto.hard to tell what shape its in without seeing it.really bad 500,00-decent 1500,00.and just about anywhere in-between.
