my car is not blowing hot air. Its blowing cool air and the a/c works great. I am wondering if this can be solve by yourself or do i have to take it to a mechanic. I do not have a lot of money so hopefully it can be fix by a simple replacement of a part. Thank You in advance

The first thing to look at is the thermostat. Does the car have a temperature gauge? If so, you may see the engine temperature staying low, well below the middle of the gauge. That would indicate a thermostat that is not closing properly, which would cause you to have insufficient heat. If there is not temperature gauge, you could ask you mechanic to check the coolant temperature by simply placing a water heater thermometer into the radiator opening. The temperature should be about 190. If the thermostat is not closing properly, it will be as low as 150 or 140. Having the thermostat replaced is not difficult, and should not be expensive.

an old 2.3 liter engine i am not sure if that one used a control valve for the heater core, if it does and the cable came off, that would do just what yours is doing now. if you fallow the smaller hose off of the water pump up to the fire wall you should see a piece in that hose with a single cable to it. if you see this piece but the cable had come loose or broken then there is your failure. if not....hmmmmmmm
