I just checked my coolant levels in the larger coolant area and it was pretty far below the "Add" line at the top. but then when I started driving it and opened it up it was all the way up full? how do I know when to refill it? Also the A/C has been not as cold as usual, could that be anything related?

Your resovoir tank should have two lines to mark "full cold" and "full hot". The full cold line is all the way at the bottom of the tank and probably isn't visible unless you're underneath the car. It's normal for the resovoir tank to appear low when it's cold and then look full once it's hot. At least that's how it is on my 99 Stang. As for the a/c I don't think the two are related. It could just be that since your car is 8 years old your a/c could just need some refrigerant or to have it's components flushed.
