I have a 2005 Mustang 5 speed manual with around 25-35K miles on it. I already bought a clutch kit that includes a flywheel with it. It is the LUK brand and I am wondering is it possible to replace the clutch at my house or do I have to take it into the shop? I have tools from the shop my parents used to own. I am tight on cash and I am also wonder how could I possibly do it. Thanks in advance.

I am in the same boat as you, time for a new clutch and the shop wants 1200.00 trying to avoid that but I gotta feeling its just too much of an undertaking to do in your own

replace your pilot bearing and throw out bearing with an OEM ford DO NOT USE the bearing in the clutch kit if it came with one.

Why is that? From what I understand doesn't ford use pretty mediocre bearings in these transmissions? I hear a lot of complaints about them.

I installed a luk clutch in my daughters mazda speed 3 a year ago and still works great. Just finished putting one in my sons 05 v6. 4 6 ton jack stands and a few tools you can easily have it done in a day. Had mine out and back in in about 4 hours.

If you dont have a manual just pm me and i can give you the torque specs for the flywheel,pressure plate, and driveshaft to trans flange. If you need me to i can tell you how to do it step by step.

It's been a few years since my 06, but I replaced two clutches in her over 170k miles and both times I did it with a buddy of mine in my driveway with a regular jack and a jack with an H bar on it to distribute the front heavy weight of the tranny...it took about three hours total each time. Pretty straight forward.

Hey I don't know the answer to that, but I have another question to top off this thread with:
My clutch releases pretty far out, is there any way I can make it engage closer to the floor?

Now I'm trying to lower the tranny but it won't go down as if something is caught on it, we in hooked all the O2 sensors but there seems to be something connected to the top of the tranny is there a wire harness that is attached to the top of it or could it be something else? Thanks.

That's part your clutch slave cylinder, you can't remove it until you get the tranny out. There are plastic clips holing it in. You'll have to unbolt the metal lines to it first that connect it to the clutch slave.

That is also where you will bleed your clutch "not a fun task" because of the space.

There's a metal clip on the top that goes to the brake master cylinder/clutch master cylinder. Use a screw driver and pop off the clip then get inside the car and push the clutch pedal it'll pop off the line.
