I have a 2006 GT Mustang with the stock 4.6L V8, i' m looking for serious power and want to know if buying a crate 5.0L like the S302 Extreme or a 5.4L like the Shelby GT500 uses would give me any real power for the cost and if they could be easily installed.

Best thing to do is buy a supercharger and install it in one weekend. I helped my friend install it last summer and it's one bad Mustang!

I agree on the supercharger. Roush makes one thats available at Ford SVT dealers, and Edelbrock makes one also. The Edelbrock is a better design using updraft and longer runners. It puts out way more Hp and torque also. But on a 2006, you need the additional cooling upgrade kit ($150) to relocate the thermostat housing to prevent overheating. I have a 2005 thats getting one later this year. The Edelbrock fits under the stock hood. The Edelbrock even comes with a programmer , unlike the Roush.

I agree 100% with the guys above. With the right bolt-ons,boost, you will make more power than if you swapped engines and save a few $$$$ at the same time. Do some research and you will see how many guys are making 400-500 rwhp still on 93 octane and stock engines.

Your car is making 300 hp at the crank. Get it to make 450 rwhp, which is quite easy and you will fall in love with it. I wish I had a 2006 GT with 3V heads to play with.

I like Bubba's idea on the Supercharger. Unless you plan on keep that car forever I would not spend the money for either engine change. Not only will you have the price of the engine, but ALL the hardware, hoses, mounts and electrical and fuel lines that will have to be changed to make the new engine work!
