You can do it, I don't know what it would sound like. To do it by yourself you are going to haw to by the H pipe v6 adapter from AM. It does require a little bit of cutting but the rest is bolt on

I think 2005 and up mustang's use an axle-back exhaust system. which means you'll probably need more piping since are mustangs use a cat-back system.
If you already have the exhaust from the GT or can get it for a good deal I'd say go for it.

Oh yeah I didn't realize you were talking about an 08 gt exhaust, in that matter, you will most likely need custom tubing

you are correct they are axel backs, my friend is willing to give me his stock exhaust because he has a pypes exhaust system on his 08 so he has no use for it really but i guess i could just go to an exhaust shop and go from there huh? Do you think it would sound good?

It's hard to say what it will sound like. If you can get them for free from your friend it's worth a shot I think. And with that exhaust you'll now have 2 exhaust tips coming out the back. I'd swing by an exhaust shop and see if they can do it. They'll probably just hack off the mufflers and they'll have to do custom tubing to make them work.

i mean it will sound better than the stock single pipe haha. and it shouldnt be to expensive. im only doing it cause i dont want to put to much into the car as i will only have it for another 2 years. do you think there would be any performance gains?

Idk. Idk how an exhaust affects sixxers. I would think so tho. Especially if you use piping bigger than stock. Won't be very much of a gain but you should pick up something. Anything to let your engine breathe better will. I picked up a slight bit of low end torque when I put on my cat back. Maybe consider having the shop divorce your pipes and have them fab you up a catless mid pipe. Just a thought lol

Catless, it will be louder and help things flow better. But if you gotta pass emissions get some high flow cats. Unless you don't mind swapping ur mid pipe out each time you go to smog ur car

I live in california, but we only have to smog the vehicle when we sell it or bring it off of non-op. I don't know what it's like where your at but if your going to sell it in a couple years you should keep the cats. Just to avoid any hassle.

You have to smog every two years in California.

why wouldn't it work?
the 94-04 design places the mufflers in front of the rear axle and the pipe directions and bends are different than 05+

The 2005+ places the mufflers at the back bumper vs under the car as previous years.

You have no room behind the rear bumper for those mufflers.

But i mean they have to make custom piping either way so they could just make the piping shorter no? I'll have to just take it to a shop and see. There is a shop here that strictly works on mustangs so they'll tell me!

for my 2001 V6 I had all of it custom bent/made from the Y pipe back (cut off the Y pipe ran true duals also on a 3.8L even fire motor there is no need for a balancer pipe (aka h pipe))

the mufflers wont fit on the back of the car, at least not without hanging very low and looking bad. YOu cant tuck them under the car unless you really mess them up as the tips are on the end of them.

Get a quote for custom bent 2.25 pipe (stainless steel only) from Y pipe back with what ever muffler you want in the OEM location.
