So the reveal is finally here, and all Ford told us was it will be a Tremec 7 speed DCT only, have over 700hp and will do 0-60 in the mid 3's range. Pretty vague, what does everyone think?

I think that it is pretty neat that a Mustang has a dual clutch transmission. It makes it seem exotic.
I suppose that I don't really care about the performance numbers... For the horsepower, the car looks like it will be relatively slow around a road track, but possibly crack off a decent quarter mile time. A lot of cars can do that nowadays.

My main interest in the GT500, has to do with how well it will perform leaving Cars and Coffee events throughout the country. :p:
Are we going to be in for another round of humiliation once these cars start hitting the streets?

I personally think they are the worst looking of the S550 Mustangs. That front end is awful, imo.

As for the DCT, it is interesting as most manufacturers are dropping the dual clutch units for newer traditional automatics as they are cheaper, just as fast and smoother under normal driving.

Also, the Tremec DCT is rated for 664 lb-ft so, it should be fairly robust as most Tremecs are. That said, the TR6060 (and T56 to an extent) is a proven transmission for cars that make serious power and still want to have a manual option. I think if there is enough support, Ford may offer the car eventually with this gearbox. However, we are talking about Ford here, so it's unlikely.

As for power, I've heard mention of 755 - 780 hp and 650 - 680 lb-ft, which the transmission is rated for 664. So, my guess is somewhere around there unless the trans has been beefed up. Also, these power numbers fit perfectly with the Challenger Hellcat Redeye (797 hp, 707 lb-ft) and a likely incoming LT5 (ZR1 Vette) powered uber-Camaro ( 755 hp, 715 lb-ft).

Regardless, the new GT500 will likely perform a lot better than the dyno queens/burnout machines that were the 13/14 GT500's.

Front end I'm not a HUGE fan of but I don't think its this monstrostiy that some do either... I also dunno why they didn't do the 10 speed trans but... again... reasons.

Stick shift option I think would be dumb from a performance standpoint but if enough ppl want it then who knows. Personally I think if someone wants a stick shift and has the budget for a GT500 they can go get a 350 with a manual trans that isn't the MT82... but ppl will want what they'll want I suppose.

I mean... I get the status symbol but when I see **** like this... its just wasteful dick measuring with a car like this IMO. What can you do with this that you can't do with a Gen3 Coyote besides "have a GT500". And I think there I just answered my own question.

Me personally I'd just get the 2020 Coyote, get it into the 10 second range for hardly any modification money and then put the other what $80k I'd spend to get a GT500 into investments.

I feel the same about these cars just becoming status symbols.

Most of the people that buy these are the same people who always say "It haz 700+ hrspwrs and its so fast!!" but have never ventured past 3/4 throttle or show up at the drag strip and have no idea where the staging beams are, drive past them and then line up their back tires with the beams. Only to then run a 13 or 14 second pass at a crazy trap speed (for the ET) because they either floored it and left on all the driver aids and let the computers sort everything out or turn them off and run a 4 second 60' because they just vaporized the rear tires and continue to do so till after the 330' mark and wonder why they just lost to a car with less than 300 hp when they have over 700.

I've seen an overwhelming majority of ZL1 Camaro's and GT500's stall the car off the line at the drag strip on stock tires and end up running something like a 15+ second pass at 115+ MPH because they have more money than brains or skill. I wish these cars still carried the death factor like they used to for the driver. Instead now, they make a car that any ****** can drive with more power than most can handle yet still maintain drivability to the point that these people get confident that they are good drivers, turn off traction and stability control and then leave cars and coffee trying to kick some posi (get sideways) and they end up running over 59 people.

On that note, if I wanted a new Mustang, I'd buy the Bullitt and throw some mods on it and call it good and end up with a faster, cheaper, better looking car.

I like almost everything about the car except that is only available in an automatic and that shifter knob has got to go. I personally would never own one as I feel 700+ HP is excessive for a daily driver. The cost of the car, insurance and gas usage is enough to scare me away even if I had an extra $65K laying around. This car is probably meant to compete with the high-end Camaros and I'm sure it will do just that, although it seems that Ford wants it to be a track car where in the past the GT500 was pretty much straight-line speed. It seems like the lines between the GT500 and GT350 are becoming blurred and usually, when you try to make a car that fulfills both needs it is great at neither but that has yet to be seen.

Like the brakes, but wish they were carbon ceramic. First factory supercharged Coyote is cool. The trans is alright, but I’d like a manual. Maybe a variant of the TR6070 in the ZR1. Body looks ok. I hope they make a KR model with some improvements over the base and carbon fiber package models.

Pick your poison.

The shift knob out of a Ford Fusion kind of ruins the whole vibe for me......and that front end still looks to me like a large mouth bass getting ready to swallow something smaller.

The rest of the body work I REALLY like and it still should be a road AND track monster. I’d really like to see it generate better lateral G’s than the top of the line Camaro, but I don’t think we will have to wait too long once they start production until there are numerous comparison tests.....don’t really care if it can beat the Camaro in the 1/4 mile.......

I'm not sure why everyone hates the useless shift knob. What are you going to do with it? You use the paddles to change the gears when your driving. IMHO, a retro shift knob (like an older Mustang shifter) would be in the way. Have you ever see those newer vans that have that damn floor type shifter on the dash? It's pretty obtuse lol. If it's an auto, it just needs buttons or a dial, etc that is out of the way. That's my :2cents: or maybe 15 cents lol.

Everyone complaining about the shift knob, makes no sense anyways. 98% of yall wouldnt buy one either way, if it was manual or auto, so it dosent matter.

Lol I couldn't afford the note on one, even if I could i wouldn't buy it. I have respect for them 100%, however I rather take a year or 2 and build something

Who knows. 0-60 times are just for mid life crisis dudes with performance issues anyway. Get a 1/4 mile time and a trap speed on the ticket and see how well it performs. I still say it is massively overpriced and its only something rich ppl will buy for bragging rights. A base model GT will do 10 second 1/4 miles with exhaust/tires/tune and there is 0 reason any street car needs to be faster than that.

I actually value 0-60 much more, and not brcause of my age or girth. Lol I want to be able to get out of a jam in a hurry or blow some chump off the red light that wants to try to merge into my lane with only 1000 feet of lane left on his side. WOT for a quarter of a mile doesn't really serve any purpose in daily driving IMO.
