I have about 1200 to put into my car, I was either gonna fab up a turbo kit, (have everything planned except a manifold) or pull my engine and do a rebuild, I'm trying to get as close to 300hp as I can, but I wanna know what you guys think, I'd love to be on boost, but I also want the experience of building an engine. So what do you guys think I should do? I already have a intake, dumped glass pack exhaust and a 8.8 but only 3.08s for gears :/ this would also be my daily.

I would do the rebuild with forged internals then later when u have more money saved up do the turbo. A built engine can take more boost than a stock one. I would do my top end also b4 turbo though just to get the most from my engine. But I understand the money issue all to well! Lol!

a 300hp N/A V6 would be a lot more impressive than a 300hp with turbo.
It would be best to build your engine for a lot boost and make more than 300hp.

maybe rebuild it as a high compression engine that should give you more power.

gonna need double you're budget to get that..pm David if you'd like a full n/a build. he'll tell you it's the wrong route to go in the end for what he actually paid.

Well I am really only wanting up to about 300, so if I build it I Probly won't boost it, and vice versa, but like what would you guys recommend, I was thinking custom ported and polished heads, a cam, mabey raise compression, but I still wanna run 83, I'm not really a fan of the 4.2 build, not to big of a gain, right? I wish there was like a list of parts with the gains and price right there lol

well the stock 3.8 has 190, and the stock 4.2 has 220.
I noticed a big difference when I stroked my stock singleport V6. I'm probably right at 180 or 190hp with the single port heads. I really want split-port and a windstar intake. I like the look of the windstar intake...

I like the windstar too, but I herd the kit got discontinued :/ and it takes ALOTT of fab skills to do it yourself, but how much was the 4.2 stroker? And what's the deal with the f150 thing, do I use the block? The pistons? What?

there the exact same thing basically the 4.2 just has different internals. So if you bought a 4.2(f150 1997-2008 v6) it would be a direct swap. and you would need only the block with internals. OR you can use your block and get the 4.2 crank, connecting rods and pistons. then "BOOM!" you have a stroker motor. Theres a little bit more to it if you have a 94-98 mustang 3.8 but your's looks like its a 99-2004 so you have no problem there.
I don't think the windstar intake requires to much fabrication. I think you just have to relocate the intake hosing or piping(not sure what its called...) and the throttle cables.
Also I think I read that they still sell the windstar intakes and parts for it. Just not all together in a kit anymore.

DAMN IT JUST PM DAVID ABOUT KYLE! Lol.
I'm
Using Kyle. Good guy , fair prices. With a dyno tune heads cam intake you should see 220-240rwhp.
To see 300rwhp n/a you'll need a 4.3L long rod stroker and a very high compression engine.
Get HCI from Kyle and plan for a custom
Built turbo.

Davidcsiefert. He's a member on here and Kyle is a performance guy who he's been going through.

Go to the thread how much horsepower do I have with these mods and he's the third one from the bottom

If your running high compression with ported intake and heads with an exhaust and forged internals, I see you by getting 300 at the crank easily. As long as you do it right you can easily get 300 HP.

Well what price am I looking at for a custom port job? Anything like on supersix? Cause that looks pretty expensive to me... Would a shop charge that much if I brought mine to be ported? Heads and intake

Well the stuff from supersix is the head and everything, I think if you just got it ported, it would be much cheaper than supersix heads

wow should have came in here earlier lol..

for the hell of it
Home - Kyle Person Performance

considering what i can make right now on the ground 242 times 120% = 290crank hp.. so yeah motor wise it's not terribly hard to get close to 300, but at the wheels it's a lot harder lol

as i told ya in the pm's money wise boost for 300rwhp is the best way

best you could get N/A wise on the wheels is close to 280, but that's a bit of a chunk of change

as to windstar it's not that much fabrication to do to make it work; coil bracket, throttle/cruise control bracket, modify the breather tube to be lower, replace egr bracket with the windstar's (just a couple bolts), requires you to modify egr tube if you keep it (you can just solder the tube back together with another piece of copper piping)

i just did the junkyard 4.2 swap in mine, damn near 25K miles since then nothing wrong with it, they hold up very well with all this abuse haha

Well I'd still be happy with under 300, I was talking at the crank mostly, I get that 300 at the wheels is pretty hard to get lol, but were about would custom ported&polished heads, cams, balanced piston heads and rods, and Mabey a 10 to 1 compression put me power/cost wise and what else do you guys think I could do

---------- Post added at 12:28 AM ---------- Previous post was at 12:27 AM ----------

Also considering windstar or porting my intake manifold

kyle would do all the top end stuff for you

as for the internals SSM, you can get them for 1450, but then you have to consider rings/locks/bearings/machine work since they only come with oversized pistons... it's a lot of money for the bottom end work..

you can make good power without bothering with forged internals and high compression, i mean hell mine only has 9.2:1 compression because it's a stock 4.2 bottom end lol

and the windstar vs. the ported factory, windstar hands down
