So after I took my harmonic balancer off of my 302,(~71) I noticed that the notch on the crankshaft had been damaged. Before I go and replace the timing chain and sprockets and put it back together, I wanted to see if I should worry about this?

-thanks

I have cleaned up the keyway with a file in the past, but it is probably just as easy to replace it. It is probably alright, as long as the balancer slides on easily, and does not have an excessive amount of back and forth play.
You can just knock it out of the slot by using a ball peen hammer and a flat-blade screwdriver, and then hammer in a new keyway, if necessary.
