I belive the current 5.0 has 4 overhead cams (belive the 4.6 had one, not sure), 4 valves and variable cam timing (4.6 had 3v and no vcti) and more displacement (5 vs 4.6). Also more hp 412 vs 300. Thats the major diffs.

Leave it to others more knowledgable in the forum to correct me.

The 5.0 was a clean-sheet design and doesn't share any parts (so I have read) with the previous generation of engines. It's a thoroughly modern engine from the ground-up.

Yeah, it was a pretty big deal when they brought back the 5.0. I can't remember too many times when there was such a big difference between years like between 2010 and 2011.

3v was 300 hp, except the bullitt and the 10 both 315(very similar PCM calibrations)

4.6 4v were mostly 300 hp and the 4.6 4v sc was 390

On the website for my car it says it's 4.6 SOHC 24 value V8 what does that mean?
Sohc means single overhead cam, only one cam per head instead of 2 (dohc) and 24 v means total number of valves, 24 in the motor, 12 per head, 3 per cylinder (2 intake and 1 exhaust
