Okay so I'm starting a new thread because I found the source of my leak (thank you again iguanaman3!) and now I have some additional questions for the experts.

The leak is at the connection of the hose to the compressor. I used some dye filled recharge stuff and it came bubbling out right where the coupling is. I found the correct replacement hose and it will be here next week.

My question is this. Replacing this hose looks to be incredibly simple. Do I really have to take it to a shop or can I replace the hose, then recharge using a can of coolant with the gauge on top?

Or could I replace the hose and take it to a shop for the recharge part?

I don't want to F up my compressor but I also don't want to drop $250 or more on something that looks very simple.

Any help would be appreciated!

You can replace the hose yourself, but you will need to go to an A/C shop to have them refill the system with refrigerant.
They will need to hook up a vacuum pump to the system to remove the air. So there is more to it than just hooking up a bottle of refrigerant.
