I have a 99 stang with upgraded engine and was wondering what spark plugs would best match my engine?

Um internals and externals, so far all I know right now is that the pulley is different and also it has a cold air intake and I'm not sure what else, the only reason I know of this is cause I checked why it has the "service engine soon" light on and I got 2 codes P1309 & P0411 so then I went to open the hood and my brother and his friends told me that the engine was upgraded. So now I don't know how to maintain this car. It has Cobra parts so I'm not sure what I should be looking up exactly.

Best bet would be to get a better detailed description of what has been done to this engine before you toss any more parts at it. Even spark plugs can effect engine performance, as there are cold and hot range plugs, and the choice of which to use depends on what was done. The "internals and externals", in the way of discribing modifications being done is not enough information to help in the way of a good choice of plugs to use.

How does it run now? Is there a reason why you want to change the plugs?

Cobra parts on a V6 makes very little sense. We really need more information. Currently I'd be inclined to suggest whatever normal autozone or advanced auto spark plugs you want. Unless you have a build that depends on having a different type of spark plug, along with the aftermarket plug wires to go with it, using better spark plugs in a car not meant for them is like putting premium gas in a car that takes 87. It's just a waste of money.

Generally speaking, I prefer NGK as a brand, and I like the iridiums. I used them on my Civic, and do so on the Mustang as well. There's no real reason to use these since the cars aren't race built, I just think NGK is good quality without breaking the bank. I like the iridiums because if you drive like a grandma you can possibly when the stars align get a little more mpg out of them.

Well the guy at O'Reilly AP told me to go with NGK GP platinum spark plugs, but thanks for the help I really appreciate it, would it be a bigger help if I posted pictures of the engine??

The reason why I wanna change the plugs was due to the service engine light being on, I just want the car to be running in perfect condition, racing is not really my thing in automatic transmissions cause I'm afraid I'll break the car LoL but the car has like a little shaking when it idles. I was told to do the whole tune up first then see if that helps clear up one of the OBD2 codes, they are P1309 & P0411. Any ideas on what I should take care of first? I'll post up the engine soon.

Hey noize,

What kind of upgrades do you have? It seems like you have a fun little car!

In regards to plugs, I am a huge fan of the NGK Iridium IX Performance Spark Plugs myself and run them on all my cars.

Check out the Installation guide and it will show you exactly how to install them!

The guys at O'Reilly's will tell you to go with whatever plug will make them the most money. On a non-tuned V6 with no mods (which I don't see any obvious mods) it's not going to make a difference. I do agree with him on NGK brand, good brand. Spark plugs don't usually stay in the car long enough to warrant needing those ones he suggested, the only advantage is no corroding, and supposedly they don't lose their gap, which in my experience is bull. They ALL lose their gap.


Based on the pics it looks fairly stock. Have you pulled your old plugs to see if they need replaced? Checked all your grounds to make sure they aren't corroded?

Okay then well I think I'm just going to get just Bosch platinum its cheap and it will at least make the car run right?

Looks like a almost stock v6 that hasn't been messed with really. Some people will make their engine out to be amazing when it's not just to sell it.


Also, the engine doesn't fill the space because the body is meant for a v8. Obviously the v8 is way bigger than the v6.

I suggest you remove your valve cover breether, and put the proper cap back on. That's letting unwanted air into your engine that your cars computer isn't counting for; and because of that it will cause the car to run poorly. And on another note your coil pack does not look stock. The car looks like it was lowered properly(camber plates) that's good. Do you mind taking a closer picture of your throttle body? It looks like it could be a bbk product. But as for as I see your intake manifold are stock, so I doubt there's been any internal work.As for the basic tune up go with new plugs, wires, and I would service your transmission, and service the radiator. Ps post on the 99-04 v6 section.

it has a cheap construction, but has a great price/quality ration
