So I have a straight 6 '66. I was just wondering what is the biggest motor I can drop in the engine bay without cutting modifying the engine bay

I think you could fit a 351W block in there, but it might be tight depending on the headers you use. I put a 302 in my 65 and had it stroked to a 347. More than enough power for that little pony car :headbang:.

Crammed a 390 into a 67 once..... no room for headers tho

Nice! I just want a DD with a power you know? Nothing fancy. Is it possible to fit in a 5.0 from a fox body in there? Or will that be too much power for the body? :p

That would work great. A lot of guys drop the 5.0s from fox bodies in their 65/6 due to the fuel injection set up. And since it is based off a 302 block it fits perfectly too. I say that would be your best bet for a DD too.

In that case, I think I'll go with the 5.0. I've had trouble with carbs so I prefer fuel injection. Any idea how much the whole swap would cost. I'm guessing its going to need a tranny as well. But let's face it, I'm no Donald Trump :D

Sup dude, I'm in the same exact process. I'm putting an 87 5.0 and t5 tranny into my 68 coupe. It is costing me about $1000 all and all. I went carburetor instead of fuel injected but, just to give you an idea.

I'm thinking I might sell my 01 V6 to pay for that. Then I'll have a decent DD $1000 isn't too bad how many miles did the engine and tranny have?

The guy I bought it from said they had about 150,000 original miles but he had put new pistons which had about 10,000 miles when I bought it. By the way do you already have the engine and tranny? My bad man I didn't mention that the car cost me 1,700 as well.

I haven't bought the engine and tranny yet, I'm starting to look for a set though. I have the car it's a '66 with an inline 6 motor. I want to swap the motor out to a 5.0 I was wondering how much would the swap cost, excluding the cost of the engine and tranny, which I know will vary. I just want to know about how much a the actual swap costs.

Ohhh. Yeah man that's what it's runnin me. You probably already know this but try looking in junk yards. You can get good engines and transmissions there.

Yeah if I can't find one on Craigslist for a good price I'm gonna go to the junkyard. There's this local yard that has plenty of fox bodies for some reason. So I'm looking at about $1000 for labor? Sounds good

If you have a specific header you want to use, then get a 5.0. 351W won't fit with certain headers. I still had trouble getting my longtubes in. A 5.0 is about as big as I would go. Best way to do it is grab one out of a fox. Don't forget though, you can stroke the 302 to a 347 if you would like. It really depends on what you're gonna use header-wise and what you're using the car for. Hope this helped.

True. The 5.0 had headers on it that I just found out will not fit in my car. I'm gonna have to buy different ones later. If you go the junk yard route take all the parts you can from the fox. It'll save you a lot of money.

Good choice Sam I would def go with a 5.0.
They are easy to work on and plenty of used and bolt on parts! I've had 3 mustangs before (83-87-91) and I loved the 5.0's. torquey and light. Also agree with the fuel injection. I live in Montreal Quebec and the weather is so unpredictable that the carb isn't always running the way it should.

thanks guys. but I'm having conflicting thoughts k&n what I should do with my cars though. I have an 01 V6 which I'm doing bodywork on, and my old 66. I need an opinion. Should I sell both of them and use it as a down payment yo get a newer GT from the dealer, or sell the 01 to get the 66 as a DD? Because the 01 is my DD and it has some light tranny issues

Ahh man we have a lot in common. I was wondering if I should spend my money on my 68 or buy a newer one about a month ago. I even went to a dealership to try out an 07 gt. as you can see I stuck with my 68. If you don't mind the time and effort I say go with your 66. New mustangs are awesome but classics are bad A$$!
