I recently bought a 2000 GT and recently it started making horrible noises when I would apply the brakes. Like i was dragging my exhaust on the ground sound. So I took it apart today and saw the whole rear drivers side brake pad was gone. So I replaced the pads and rotors on the whole rear. Brakes felt so much better after. And then about half way home from the garage I was working at it started making a slight whining noise. Thought maybe it was wheel wobble. So I stopped and my friend checked and there was no wheel wobble. So then afraid of damaging it more I drove the rest slowly. The noise kept getting louder and louder. Like it was pretty noisy. So I finally got home and checked and it was the same side. The rear drivers side. And it was making considerable heat. You could feel it radiating off of it and grooves were already in the rotor. Anybody know what this might be? I'm thinking maybe I need new calipers.

That would be my guess too. Never had that happen personally but wouldn't be a bad place to start. My mom's escape was doing something similar except the brake pad actually broke and cut a groove in the rotor. It was an awful noise.

I had this exact same problem after doing my rear rotors. Same exact side too, it was VERY hot and the noise would get louder the more it was driven. Took it to the shop thinking it was the entire caliper. Turned out to be the caliper bracket ($25) was seized up.

Phew. That sounds a lot better than 60. Thanks a lot. I'm going to lot at it again today.

I ended up just buying the whole caliper set for 52 bucks and after I installed it I took it for a drive. Felt better and as soon as I was happy with it that same dreaded noise appeared again. Same symptoms but the other side. I guess it looks like I'm spending another 52 dollars

Weird...same symptoms mine was having. It was just the bracket.

You always wanna replace your calipers in pairs

I replaced the other one and everything seems fine!
